edit -editor Misokinesis autosave flashing
I suffer badly with both Misophonia and Misokinesis. To the point that the constant flashing up of the 'saved' notification in article editor autosave irritates me to the point I can no longer write in World Anvil any more. I have taken to writing in Open Office and copy and pasting over. But even then, when that comes up after pasting it drives me mad. I have since stopped using World Anvil entirely and as a member of the ASC this has stopped me streaming too. As it flashes up every few seconds or so it makes my skin crawl. This is the same reason I don't use the Euclid editor as I can't stop the cursor from blinking.   I would like an option to be able to turn off this flashing. I can see how some people can find this useful as they know their work is being saved. But if you suffer from Misokinesis like I do it is unbearable.

The Team's Response

@DMStretch I will need further details as to what the implementation should be. Do you wish to be removed entirely? - Please mention me on Discord and elaborate on this.   Kummer: I have read through https://www.w3.org/TR/UNDERSTANDING-WCAG20/seizure-does-not-violate.html and the current implementation does pass the threshold

Even though I never heard of Misophonia and Misokinesis, making the site a better place for everyone is and most like always will be one of the top priorities.   Since I do not suffer from any of these, I have no real idea how to fix it. Of course, one could make an account wide option to disable the popup.   But what would be a good alternative. A very slow fade in? Another colour? An icon that shows you the last saved time stamp on mouseover?

Disability Access is important and should not be ignored. As I have to police WCAG ( https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG21/ ) compliance in my day job, what DMStretch describes seems to fall under https://www.w3.org/TR/UNDERSTANDING-WCAG20/seizure-does-not-violate.html   Having 'saved' be small and green is fine for certain compliance but should have a preference to disable it.

Until today I had never heard of misokinesis. Familiar with misophonia however. I see no reason for this not to be implemented in an accessibility area of the interface.

Perhaps an option to decrease the speed of fades/animations might help mitigate this problem while keeping the user informed?

While I may not be bothered by the flashing of the "saved" notification (personally, I find it very useful), but in daily life I have regularly encountered things I find extremely annoying or distracting (because I most likely have AD(H)D, though this is undiagnosed) while no one else has a problem with it. So, I can understand some people might be irritated and an option to turn this flashing off might be very useful for them.

DMStretch is a devoted Anvilite. I can only think that if this is something that bothers him this much, it must bother others like this as well. I know that we have a lot of neurodiverse people in the community, and this is apparently a common issue for neurodiverse people. Note that this is different from this declined feature https://www.worldanvil.com/community/voting/suggestion/93395ec0-527b-4274-8373-61809121bb31/view because Stretch is not asking for the *function* of auto-save to be clicked on or off; he is just asking that there be some ability to turn off the *flashing* that tells you that something has been saved. Maybe the timestamp is enough, or perhaps there could be a colour-coding system of some kind? Anyway, I'd support a solution to this, for no better reason than losing Stretch would be a grave loss to the community.
