Scarlet Brotherhood
A network of spies who once served the interests of a mysterious, highly authoritarian leader known only as Lord Scarlet. The machinations of the Brotherhood served to move its agents into greater and greater positions of power, which Lord Scarlet intended to eventually use to bring all of Kaeol under his rule, eliminating or subjugating those deemed "unworthy" along the way.
It was eventually discovered that Lord Scarlet was actually the archdevil Titivillus, who intended to leverage Kaeol in order to usurp the current archduke of Dis, Dispater. After his initial plot to take over the region through political coups and wars failed, his agents worked to unleash Tharizdun, the eternal darkness on the Azure Coast in hopes of creating enough chaos to draw Dispater’s attention away and facilitate a takeover. This plot was foiled by the High Seas Ass Kickers, who sealed away Tharizdun's Abyssal Rifts before destroying Titivillus himself. After this defeat, the brotherhood was thrown into disarray.
Thirty years later, the Brotherhood had reorganized as a network of spies and assassins operating across the Continent. One of their agents - a human named Naerth - was active in Icewind Dale, where he became the Speaker for the town of Targos before dying in a mysterious inn explosion in Easthaven. It is unknown who is currently pulling the Brotherhood's strings or what their current agenda is. They have, however, managed to attract the attention of the Xendrosi, who have mobilized their own agents in response to the recent resurgence.
