Fidelis Arcanum
The Fidelis Arcanum is a society of mages dedicated to advancing arcane knowledge and preparing for potential extraplanar threats to Zor. It was founded by Goddle Coldstone after the Saltmarsh incident to ensure the wizards of Zor would be prepared if another world-killer level threat from beyond the material planes arises again.
Structure
A mage can apply for membership to the organization after they have graduated from a credentialed academy and demonstrated ability to make unique contributions to the body of knowledge. Mages ascend the hierarchy by completing research, making discoveries, inventing spells or magic items, etc. The High Council of Magi is the top level, the ultimate mark of prestige a wizard can accomplish.
Culture
Under the surface, a lot of advancement is predicated on political connections to influential members. Goddle has serious problems with this but is too focused on preparing for the next world-killer level threat to really be able to put an end to it.
History
The organization was founded shortly after the Saltmarsh Incident. Goddle Coldstone recognized that the wizards of Zor were woefully unprepared for extraplanar threats like Titivillus and Tharizdun, the eternal darkness. He brought together a group of like-minded wizards from The Kaeol Sovereignty and the Aeuzian Empire to form the first High Council of Magi, naming their new society the Fidelis Arcanum in recognition of the responsibility magic users have to defend the people of their world from threats only they can deal with.
They are headquartered in the Coldstone Tower, which was built on the Isle of Abbey after the Scarlet Brotherhood was removed. Despite its name, the Tower is Actually build of a magical material of J'jiwe design, which has an ivory like color and texture.
