Aeuzian Empire (AY-uhz)

The Aeuzian Empire has been ruled by Emperor Cazaal for as long as anyone can remember. He is rumored to have some sort of supernatural heritage that effectively makes him immortal. Magic is more pervasive in Aeuz than anywhere else on the continent, making the Empire a strong force to be reckoned with. Fortunately for both The Kaeol Sovereignty and Veruun, Cazaal seems content to rule in the North so long as he is able to maintain access to the southern seas.

Demography and Population

Aeuz is very diverse, particularly around the capital city of Choutal. It is a frequent destination of individuals interested in magical pursuits, and thus attracts a wide representation of Zor's various races. The "native" population of Aeuz, such as it is, is primarily made up of Humans, Tieflings, Aasimar, and Dragonborn.

Territories

The empire controls virtually all of the Northern portion of the continent, as well as a strategically valuable strip of land which runs directly between Veruun and Kaeol to the Southern Sea.

Military

The might of the Aeuzian military is undisputed. In addition to having the largest army on the continent, they possess technologically superior weaponry to their neighbors. They also have the advantage of the Spellweaver Corps, a highly trained collection of special forces units composed entirely of wizards and other magic users.

Technological Level

Aeuz was one of the first, if not the first, nations to develop airships. Though these marvels of modern technology are still exceptionally rare, the major cities of the empire are already well connected through a network of air travel.   Additionally, firearms have recently become much more commonplace in Aeuz, and rumor has it the military's archery units are currently converting over to the new and more potent form of ranged warfare.

Religion

Aeuz is highly diverse in terms of religious practices. Although Cazaal himself primarily worships The Raven Queen, he has been known to frequent the temples of many deities.   While religious tolerance has many perks, there are some who wish Aeuz was less tolerant of certain practices, particularly those who worship Asmodeus, the infernal jurist as well as the Cult of Tharizdun. Such groups have been known to make trouble for their fellow citizens, but barring the occasional human sacrifice incident the authorities are reticent to take action against either sect for fear of appearing intolerant.

Foreign Relations

Aeuz has cordial, if not friendly, relations, with its neighboring countries. Veruun is still somewhat sour over having been thwarted by the empire in its own attempts to overtake The Kaeol Sovereignty, but not foolishly so. As the undisputed military and economic power on the continent, neither of its neighbors would have the strength to wage war against them in direct confrontation. The only possible scenario where Veruun or Kaeol might have a reasonable chance of victory would be an alliance, but the enmity between the two states makes such a scenario very unlikely.   Economically, Aeuz is a valuable trading partner to Kaeol in particular. In exchange for the bountiful natural resources that flow from the farmlands, waterways, and mines of Kaeol, Aeuz supplies a generous amount of technological goods, including transportation and weaponry.

Education

The academies and colleges of Aeuz are world renowned. It is known that most of the world's most reputable wizards, including the majority of the council of the Fidelis Arcanum, hail from one of the academies in Choutal or Zorim.

Infrastructure

Aeuz is well served by a system of transport including railways trafficked by a form of steampowered engines, as well as a network of airship travel between its major cities. Though the empire has limited inland water ways, they have developed ships that overcome this difficulty through amphibious means of transportation. It is not uncommon to sea an Aeuzian ship run aground, only to rise up on hydraulic wheels and continue sailing down one of the empires wide and well maintained roadways.   The only major hurdle to travel in Aeuz are the mountains to the north, which are so tall and treacherous that very few make the direct journey from the empire to the northern frontier of Icewind Dale. Most travel south to depart on a ship, preferring to sail around the continent over the course of several months rather than risk the shorter but much more dangerous trip through the mountains.
