The Wine Twins' War

Historical Significance

On 30 Audh 2821 3E, Lord Dostin de Raislin, the head of House Raislin of Conais, passed away from old age. The Raislin family spent the better part of the next month sorting out Lord Dostin de Raislin's remaining estates, mainly who would become the owners of the flourishing Delmagne vineyard approximately three days travel north of Curieux. The deceased lord's two eldest children, the twins Desmond and David de Raislin—both landed lords of Conais by marriage—feuded over the possible inheritance.

During an extended family meeting at Delmagne on 29 Faenrul, the day before the intended distribution of Lord Dostin de Raislin's assets, both Lords Desmond and David de Raislin consumed alcohol to the point of inebriation during lunchtime. Their drunken conversation turned to the matter of their birth, particularly the unanswered question of which twin was truly the eldest. Lord Dostin de Raislin had purportedly shed any debate regarding the order of their birth and instead intended to treat both sons as equals as the firstborns. However, the late nobleman's treatment of his sons had turned for the worse over the next thirty years.

For the twin sons, their birth order proved a sensitive subject, and their drunken bickering over the matter devolved into a boisterous argument by the late afternoon. When ownership of Delmagne came up in their discussions, the two lords' arguments became full-blown threats. By the ninth hour of the night, Lords Desmond and David de Raislin had formally declared challenges towards the others estates which, due to their status, counted as issues of war between their estates. There was only one instance of engagement during this conflict, which occurred shortly after the declaration of war. Both Lord Desmond de Raislin and Lord David de Raislin engaged in a brawl in one of the parlors at the family's mansion in Delmagne vineyard. The two lords sustained minor injuries, but the mansion's staff ceased their drunken fighting before any serious damage occurred to either party.

Supposedly, both Lords were separated and encouraged to rest off their inebriation. The following morning on 30 Faenrul 2821 3E, the brothers agreed to recant their declarations and ceased any further belligerent actions. In the aftermath of the kerfuffle, neither Lord Desmond de Raislin nor David de Raislin inherited Delmagne, which instead passed on to their teenaged younger sister, Edele de Raislin.
