Time Ripples

What goes through can never go back.

My family has passed down stories of the time before the gates, back when things could go wrong, back when you could be sitting in your home and a time ripple open right at your dinner table. Countless lives were lost in those times and now we choose to live like this again.
— A Keeper

Time Ripples seem to be a supernatural phenomenon in the world of Tyleth. Portals that open from various points in time of Earth's history. Though, it is not uncommon for people to have been pulled through the ripples; they seem to have an affinity towards the Mesozoic Era. Allowing beasts and creatures from this time into the world of Tyleth. The one certain thing they have tried is going back and found that this is impossible.

Manifestation

Time Ripples look like the ripples on a body of water, only floating in the air. The center ripple is the portal itself, the rings around it often have glimpses of time before or after the point of the center ripple. The size of the ripples hold little to no bearing on how long the phenomenon lasts.

Localization

Controlled Localization

  • Time Portals, or Gateways as they are often called, are placed along the outskirts of most major Wave 38 cities.
  • Ripple Beacon are placed out from The Keepers' settlements to help avoid dinosaurs srpingin up in their living rooms; but they are not gaurded or maned like the Portals.

Uncontrolled Localization

  • In the WildLands, Time Ripples can happen anywhere at any time, it also allows for Time Storms to form more often. Though the plain lands surrounding DryLock Lake seem to draw them more than any other place in the wild lands.
What happens if you go back?
  • Popular theories are either you will cease to exist, get turned into dust, die, or it bounces you back to someplace or even possibly another time on Tyleth.
  • There have never been studies of what happens. Some have used mathematical equations in trying to figure it out.
  • Tall tales are widely considered fact by various people which follow along with the popular theories, even if there is no evidence to support these claims.

What are waves?
  • Waves are a collection of ripples that happen. While their locations are random, their numbers are often not. Each year is broken down into three sections. First Wave, between waves, and Second Wave.
  • First wave typically has between 60-180 ripples.
  • Between Waves is about 10-20 ripples.
  • Second Wave has about 30-150 ripples.
  • Each wave set is in a span of 4 months.

What happens to technology that goes through the ripples?
  • Most things that hold some form of current are generally shorted out. While other things will be nothing more than a melted brick by the time it passes through.
  • A lot of the first tech was nothing more than cobbled together bits and pieces from things that managed to make it through.
