Third White~Black Succession
The Third White-Black Succession was the shortest of the successions, lasting for barely four months. The shortness of the Third White-Black Succession was primarily the result of two mistakes by the house of Mosal. The first was ignoring the growing dissent among their own allies and growing strength of their rivals. The second mistake was a severe underestimation of Hecai Angara, eldest son of Megawati Angara. Hecai Angara had all but disappeared from the public for nearly seven years during the Second White~Black Succession. Kept as a prisoner of the Kosals, Hecai was tortured to the point of physical impairment during the Second White~Black Succession. Given over to the Mosals at the end of the succession he was eventually married off to Soun Mosal, who fell in love with the stoic, bookish prisoner promising she could "breed the rebel out of him." (The two eventually had three children.) Hecai used the modicum of freedom this marriage allowed him to ferment dissent among the allies of the Mosals and collaborate with rebellious Satraps. Finally, Hecai, with the help of rebellious agents, was spirited out of Magava to Western Lilira. Calling to arms those who had been oppressed by the Mosals all the Satrapies, with the excpetion of Arismat and Satita, rallied to the young charismatic Angara. Within weeks Magava was surrounded and a panicked Utari Utami Mosal committed suicide. An Angara collaborator later opened the gates for Hecai but by the time the entered the city he had already won. The Mosals, who had already fallen to inter-family rivalries, were easily defeated. Despite his nearly bloodless coup (Arismat and Satita had surrendered without a fight when faced with overwhelming odds) Hecai Angara began a campaign to systemically execute all the remaining Mosals, regardless of age or involvement. Few escaped his purges, but among those who did were Soun Mosal along with Hecai's sons who, with the rest of the Mosals, fled to Arismat. After a brief respite in Arismat all the Mosals, and a few Kosals, fled from Yura taking as much of their wealth with them as they could. Dealing with factional tension Hecai was unable to pursue them. The factionalism would soon be resolved and Hecai Angara would be declared the Emperor of Yura.
The Conflict
Prelude
Following his rescue by Western Lilira Hecai Angara sent a letter to all the Satrapies urging them to dissolve their claims to the Mosals and back him. All the Satrapies, with the exception of Arismat and Satita, choose to do so and back him.
Deployment
Rallying the majority of the troops from Western and Eastern Lilira Hecai Angara marched on Magava. Satita in the south was jointly invaded by Sonui, Valpalal, and the reminder of troops from Western and Eastern Lilira. When faced with a three-front war, Satita surrendered without a fight. Hearing of this capitulation Arismat, which had been mobilizing to attack Narapus, ordered their troops to stand down and declared neutrality.
Battlefield
The only battle of any substance was the capture of Magava. Magava was captured with little violence, the only casualties coming from a skirmish between the Imperial Guards of Utari Utami Mosal and Hecai Angara's army.
Outcome
The short-term effects of the Third White-Black Succession were many. First, the death of Utari Utami Mosal allowed Hecai Angara to ascend to the throne. The bloody purges against the Mosals initiated by Hecai caused, for the first time since the inception of the White~Black Successions, one family to have fully banished or eliminated their dynastic rivals from Yura. The Kosal's lands were seized and their power shattered, reducing them to a rump state under the control of the Emperor, who annexed most of their lands, giving the remainder to Narapus. With the near absolute destruction of the Kosals the Mosal power base in Yura was utterly eliminated.
Aftermath
The long-term effects on Yura were massive. For the first time in fifty years The Empire of Yura was at a state of relative peace. Hecai Angara worked to quell any dissent and increasingly worked to centralize the Empire. His efforts met with large resistance but with a combination of force and diplomacy most of his efforts met with success.
Historical Significance
The Third White-Black Succession was an important moment in the political history of Yura. Besides the obvious political effect of the rise of a new Emperor (Hecai Angara) the period also laid the groundwork for a number of important documents. Under Hecai Angara the first Imperial Legal Code was drafted and the historical, legal and political groundwork was set for a number of later major documents and organizations including, but not limited to: The Writ of Imperial Infallibility, The Ako {Unity} Pact, The Imperial League, The Reform League, and the Treaty of Redress.Legacy
The legacy of the Third White~Black Succession was one of stability and one of fear. Hecai Angara was an autocrat who saw the autonomy of the Satraps as the reason for the high amount on violence. Hecai's efforts were to have the long term effect of increasing fear of Imperial control among the Satraps and his reign saw the formation of the first large political factions Yura had ever seen.
