White~Black Successions
The White-Black Successions are the blanket term for a series of conflicts that began following the death of Ratna Angara, First Empress of Yura. These conflicts, which lasted on and off for over one hundred years, concerned the disputed succession among Ratna's five children and their descendants over ascension to the Imperial Throne. On one side, the house of Angara (see Liberated Line of Angara), called the Whites, claimed the legitimate succession due to their relation to the king-consort of Ratna Angara, Solikin Ru. The house of Mosal (see Liberated Line of Kosal), called the Blacks, claimed the legitimate succession due to the fact that, despite being born prior to Ratna's ascension to empress, Kusnadi Mosal was the eldest living child of the now Empress. There were, in total, five White~Black Successions, all except one being horrifically bloody usually ending with the massacre of members of the opposing family. There was a period between the Third White~Black Succession and Fourth White~Black Succession, where the conflicts were declared over under the rule of Hecai Angara, however they resumed shortly following his death. The conflicts were finally brought to an end by Koin Angara, Emperor of Yura in 1290 A.C. with the death of the last Mosal pretenders.
The significance of the colors white and black is debated among Yuran scholars. Most agree that the colors likely originate from the Yellow-Crested Cockatoo (which is mostly white), and was and has become the symbol of Ratna Angara and the house of Angara. The Mosals likely choose the color black for their side as it is the opposite of the color white.
