Captain Anna Esfahani (a.k.a. Cap)

Captain of the unique vessel known as the History of Ambition, and leader of its crew, The Pariahs. Anna's past is as mysterious and anonymous as any other member of her crew, but no one can deny she is passionate about the welfare of everyone who lives and works on the ship, and has a keen eye for good business deals. Since taking captaincy fifteen years ago, the fortunes of the Pariahs has done nothing but improve.

Personal history

Anna joined the crew of the History of Ambition over twenty years ago, when she was young and idealistic. She won't speak of her time before joining the crew, but indications are that she is not a native of The Pit Edge, and arrived on the station only a few weeks prior to signing up. She freely admits to joining the crew out of a sense of adventure, a desire to see more of the universe, and being on the History of Ambition certainly provided this.
Only eight years after joining the crew, they took part in a operation to 'liberate' some expensive products from a supposed merchant vessel. It was only realised too late that the 'merchant' was a craft operated by Harja, one of the more notorious pirates operating out of the Pit Edge. The mission was a total failure; the History of Ambition is not an armed vessel, and took significant damage from the supposedly unarmed merchant, and it was only thanks to the quick thinking of Foresight, the vessel's unique AI, that they managed to escape into FourSpace. Over half the crew had been killed, including the captain and second in command at the time. Thanks to her quick thinking and a lack of anyone else willing to take on the burden, Anna was given the captaincy.
The experience taught her that the crew needed to be more careful in its selection of work, and has almost entirely focused on courier and less confrontational acquisition work (mainly pirate archeotech theft), and she has hired several members who have raised eyebrows, but proven to be valuable members of the crew.

As the leader of The Pariahs and captain of the History of Ambition, Anna is a well known face in The Pit Edge, and welcome in most establishments where ship captains meet to discuss work. She has carefully cultivated a reliable reputation, and is able to vet potential offers of employment, not willing to risk another encounter like the one that saw her predecessor killed.
Her crew consider her a capable and charismatic leader, and aside from a few grumbles when the less popular tasks are handed out, no one has any complaints about her leadership. The vast majority of the work The Pariahs now do are courier missions that require a tight turn-around and more reliable arrival time, artefact retrieval from recently discovered worlds, and the occasional passenger transport for those wishing to avoid more official channels.
