Optinus

The Optinus is the second-in-command of either a Centurian or a Captain in the Eschen Military. Each City Marshall also has one.

Qualifications

Almost all Optinus have served as a Decanus for at least a few years. They may have previously served as a Centurian's or Captain's Tertanus. The Optinus is usually someone that has been noticed as a potential future Captain or Centurian. They work very closely with their commander, and are often chosen specifically to bolster that individual's weaknesses.

Appointment

An Optinus is appointed directly by a Captain or Centurian, with the approval of their Field Marshall or Fleet Marshall. In the Guard, they are appointed by a City Marshall.

Duties

The Optinus' duty is to support their Captain, Centurian, or Marshall in any way necessary.

Accoutrements & Equipment

Generally, the Optinus wears the same uniform as their soldiers. On their dress uniform, the Optinus patch has seven black stars and three gold stars. This motif is repeated across the training fatigues and other gear - the seven black and three gold stars in a circle when possible; different variations of seven black and three gold stripes where it isn't.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

An Optinus can leave their position when they retire, are promoted, or are removed for bad conduct or failure to perform. The Optinus' Captain or Centurian can remove them, or they can be forced to do so by anyone above them in rank.
