The Battle of Sabrehill

The Battle of Sabrehill was one of the first losses suffered by the Empire, but though the battle was horribly one sided the people of Sabrehill was far less complete in its victory. Those in Sabrehill took up Weapon & Wand alike to repel the forces, and under their combined strength were able to repel the attackers a number of times before being wholly destroyed and dispersed.

The Conflict

Prelude

Sabrehill is a minor agricultural hub for the Imperial Eastern Front , but also operated as a way stop for traveling soldiers. The river was a main source of transportation and saw the steady flow of soldiers and Sunbeueru/Deperen being sent to reinforce the military. On the day in particular, a large number of soldiers and Knight Officer staff were present and waiting for the river to be cleared.
The Royal Triumvirate of the Desert Sea made efforts to cut Sabrehill off from the river, effectively eliminating a through line for the Empire and crippling their supply lines. A day before their attack on Sabrehill a scouting party was sent to create impassible objects within the River. These efforts were more effective than expected and resulted in a more catastrophic barring of the path. Following their work the scouts then went to the opposite side of town to repeat the same process. Similarly creating a more difficult obstacle.
Sabrehill had a far more productive harvest and had stored the excess using a new technique by a local Pere. Their efforts had enabled the stored products to last double their safe length, however the town maintained its policy on consumption. Several members of the citizen militia had filled complaints against the decision, but these were overruled and the issue swept away. The Militia was bolstered by the traveling soldiers and Knight Officers that were intending to travel to the distant Jasperlot , but were being delayed by the actions of the Triumvirate Scouts.

Deployment

The Royal Triumvirate of the Desert Sea had assembled a military force of nearly 100,000 troops, and were intending to travel with them through the weak center of the Imperial Eastern Front . They sent a forward detachment of 10,000 soldiers and arcanists to secure the bridges within the town. The 10,000 soldiers were being led by Dazuben Yanumheke and were instructed specifically to maintain order and structure as they assaulted the town. This was to be an act of overwhelming force, and one that would help to kick off the militaries campaign.
Dazuben knew the rough outline of the town, its population, and had received the scout reports recording their success of blockading the river. The remaining forces of the military were only a day away and were expecting the town to be captured and the bridges open for easy usage. Dazuben ordered a detachment of 1000 soldiers & arcanists to take the town. The expectation was that the people wouldn't fight a far superior force, given that the town only had about 780 people who could fight and defend their home. As far as Dazuben was aware, there were no Arcanists and no real soldiers present within the small walls of the town.
On the morning of Salea in June Vila, Dazubens forces approached the town of Sabrehill. Their numbers and armor were enough to alert the local scouting guards of the town. Quickly sounding the alarm to defend the town, Sabrehills militia and the delayed Soldiers united to defend against the coming attacks. As fortune would have it, a number of Pere Arcanists were traveling through and joined the defending forces. Reports taken after the battle state that the town of Sabrehill had a united force of 1,490 active and able Soldiers & Arcanists.
By noon the remaining 9,000 of Dezubens forces would be dispatched to raze the town.

Battlefield

The town of Sabrehill, is titular hill, and the local farming lands were all forced sites of bloody battle. Arcanists launched massive globs of fire, bombarding the town and its outskirts with burning liquids setting alight anything it could. Defending Arcanists responded with similar launches, aiming more the center of the formation marching its way closer. Eventually the battle would lead into the center of the town and across its bridges, and the damage would flatten a number of the buildings.
