Silver Elm Inn

The Silver Elm Inn is housed in the living remains of one of the great trees. While no one alive knows what happened, the stump of a great tree was here when Brineven was but a village growing up around Brinhenge, which may be older. Travelers to the village used to camp in the courtyard of the stump, and eventually a family of elven caretakers and Treewardens came to live here.   The Treewardens carefully sculpted rooms in the outer trunk, careful not to damage any of the still-living parts of the great one. As the village became a town and then a city, the number of rooms available at the Silver Elm grew.   The courtyard of the Silver Elm has a magical feeling. Three trees if differing ages grow in the courtyard, with tables, small and large placed around. The first level of the stump houses the kitchen and storerooms, Tuallis Gwenyth's suite, and a suite of rooms for the servers. Spiral stairs circle up to wide walkways on a second and third level of the great tree's stump.   The second floor has six large suites carved into the stump. Each suite has a common area and two to three bedchambers attached. The third level of the stump contains twelve rooms, the smaller containing one bed, while the larger rooms are doubles.   At night, the courtyard takes on a magical feeling with dancing lights in various colors floating around the courtyards and the walkways giving an ethereal feeling to the place.   The Innkeep is a slim elf named Tuallis Gwenyth. Tuallis dresses in a noble fashion. His hair is a darker blonde and his elven ears point high on his head. He is proud of his inn, the Gwenyth's were the original elven family who began caring for the treat stump in Brineven Village. He is also very good at taking care of his wealthy clients. He knows a lot of people in the city and someone staying at the Silver Elm can be put in contact with runners, guides, and other assistance as required.
There are five servers that work at the Silver Elm, two men and three women, all elven or alfar and all extremely pleasant.
  • Kathondrel is the eldest seeming of the servers, an alfar male who is prompt efficient, and friendly. He cares for the others as if they were his children and has been friends with Tuallis since the owner took him in as a youth. As an alfar, he has matured at a much faster rate than his elven coworkers.
  • Galedwyn is a young elven male who has only been at the Silver Elm a few years. He is extremely flirtatious with both women and men, and seems to have no preference.
  • Cyolel Gwenyth is the bartender, and her knowledge of alcohol is legendary in the city. She is an elven female and Tuallis' only daughter. Neither she nor Tuallis speak of her mother, and some wonder if Cyolel even knows. Cyolel has been learning the business from her father for decades, and in the rare instances where he is absent, she runs the inn.
  • Nuriel is an alfar female who is always seen swaying through the crowds carrying trays and drinks. She is considered buxom for an alfar and wears low-cut blouses to accentuate it.
  • Ruien is an elven woman. She has been at the Silver Elm the longest and was even present for Cyolel's birth. Tuallis assigns her to noble and wealthy tables or to the many regulars who frequent the inn. She gets exasperated with Nuriel's behavior, which just seems to encourage the young alfar.
Second floor suites here are 15 gp per night, and third floor rooms are 4 gp per person, an elven groom, Saerwin, will take any horses to a nearby shelter (grove).   The Silver Elm serves Halvasha for breakfast and usually has a selection of Green Rolls for lunch. Dinner is the catch of the day (purchased by the cook Aithnee from hunters in the North Market) with vegetable sides and a salad. Roast Boar or Venison are the favorites, but quail and pheasant are also crowd pleasers. Aithnee doesn't cook fish. Dinner is included in the price of a room, but many locals stop in for dinner at a cost of 5-10 sp for the meal, depending on the fare.
