Black Sea Wolf Species in Wherever I May Roam | World Anvil

Black Sea Wolf

A mixture of a fish and a serpent, the Black Sea Wolf is a creature that many consider not just a Beast, but one of the most dangerous Beasts out there. On the other hand, those that know how to deal with them often don't even consider them a Beast due to their calm nature. They can even be an ally and are known to save people. That is, assuming one doesn't make them angry first, as they are cruel and vindictive when they need to be.   As they are known to not only seek revenge on their own adversaries, but also any identifiable associate, we Wayfarers should make sure never to anger them. It could endanger all of us that ever venture forth into the cold seas.

Physical Details
These creatures are a bluish black, making them extremely hard to notice at night and when diving deep. Their skin has a rubberish scaled structure, which is why they are often called serpents. Yet they have fins like a fish, skillfully swimming through the water.   Further details aren't verified so are not shared normally. As they take their own deceased out to sea, while the Wayfarer Guild forbids hunting them, no specimens have ever been investigated by us.   It should be noticed the creatures have great endurance. They often wound and chase large prey for entire days without resting. The same endurance applies when they aid shipwrecked sailors.
Habitat
The Black Sea Wolves normally live in colder waters near coastlines, migrating towards the cold in summer and returning in winter. They change prey as they migrate, suggesting that this migration is purely due to the temperature and not due to their food.   They have been reported in all seas of their compatible temperature, in comparable numbers. They do avoid sweet water areas, rarely if ever going up rivers and never staying long, even in larger lakes.
Behaviour
A slither of Black Sea Wolves tends to be sized twenty to fourty, splitting into multiple groups if one grows too large. The opposite is true where groups will merge if their numbers fell too low due to disaster or a dangerous Beast.   These creatures will never forget a debt, or even face. Anyone who showed them needed kindness may still be treated friendly several generations later. Yet any that dares hunt and leave a survivor, will meet their doom one day as the creatures hold their grudges.   To indicate how dangerous they are: Over eighty years ago the naval country of Sethua was ordered to hunt these creatures. Seven years later, the fleet had been wiped out and the country fell. To this day, any ship resembling a Sethuan Frigate will be destroyed as well.
Materials
In theory their skin could be used for armour, yet there are few foolish enough to do so. Past tales tell of those foolish enough to go out at sea while wearing such an armour, leading to their demise and that of all those with them. Wayfarers are strongly advised not to wear any comparable equipment at sea, just in case one of the creatures might misinterpret the true nature of said gear.

Thanks for taking part in the unofficial challenge!   Creativity: 3,5 Verisimilitude: 4,5 Presentation: 5   It is unclear to me how you intend to present the article. At one point, you write: “no specimens have ever been investigated by us”, but it isn’t clear who the author is or what group he is referring to. Nowhere else in the article do I get the idea that it is written from that sort of perspective. If that’s the route you want to go, there’s a lot of cool stuff you can do with that to add life and personality to the article.   I would think about how you present the information in the article and the flow of it. It might be better to put Physical Details first after the overview, to give the readers an idea of what they are dealing with before moving on to the other aspects.   Some of the header titles could also use some refining. ‘Usability’ feels like an odd word to use for a creature, and ‘Nature’ seems like it is somewhat of a mix of behaviour, social state, and some history. Some of it could probably be moved to its own section and expanded on, like those kinds of history.   There’s also some details you could add some information to. Like, what kind of Beast can threaten one of the most dangerous beasts (sea wolves), details about the navy they destroyed, what kind of disasters that might cull their numbers, any specifically noteworthy member of the species.

Cheers for the feedback! I used it to shuffle the order and change the headers a bit. It's an attempt at a default structure for all Beast articles, which is also why history doesn't get its own section.   Implied more heavily in some articles than others, the narrators are always employees of the Wayfarer Guild, writing down these documents for other Wayfarers to study. I added a paragraph to the intro for making it more clear in this case. Thanks again!
