Suddenly and without warning, a massive army (perhaps the entire population) of Näckros mer-giants emerged from the ocean and attacked the continent of Valamon, riding enormous flying manta rays and vanguarded by "land sharks" running on sturdy, crustaceon-like legs. It would take an unprecedentedly broad, multi-species alliance to weather the vicious, seemingly desperate assault, and still with a devastating casualty count.

The armies of the giant, black-and-white merfolk were appallingly powerful: only the united forces of Valamon's humans, eladrin, dwarves, halflings and aselu, assisted by two teams of demigods (the Unwelcome Order and the Chorus of Seasky) were able to wrench victory from the hands of defeat. There is even one report of one of the Ghost Ships of Xois engaging a unit of manta-riders, which is highly unusual for the reclusive creatures.

Captured Näckros did not communicate with Valamonian interrogators: mind mages were only able to feel childish confusion and an overwhelming emotional impression that the merfolk had to leave the ocean, and terrestrial humanoids were in the way. Assuming any Näckros are left, they have not attempted any similar attacks.
