Helium
Overview
Helium gas is mostly inert and useless for almost any application. It cannot interact with other elements, even through normal processes, and it does not generally interact with Mana either. helium can be charged with large amounts of mana, and nothing will happen to it. The charged mana will harmlessly dissipate into the surrounding air after a few seconds, making it terrible for mana storage.
The effect with Aether is a little different. Charging helium with aether will cause it to give off a yellow light and become denser than air. Helium can store aether for long periods of time, but other than this, helium can't be manipulated all that much.
Ice Magic
One of the only uses for Helium is as a cryogenic catalyst for powering Ice Magic. An example is a Cone of Cold spell. Helium gas is conjured at a point where it then rapidly spreads out in force. this rapid expansion drastically lowers the temperature inside the affected area. Another example is conjuring Helium in liquid form, though that requires more skill and mana. The conjured Helium is extremely cold, and will freeze most things it touches, though it quickly vaporizes and disperses. The range of these cold spells in only around 5 meters.
There are more effective elements than helium for rapidly freezing objects, but due to the low conjuration and manipulation cost of Helium, an experienced mage could cast a cone of cold and continuously without ever actually draining their mana. Casting a Cone of Frost with liquid Nitrogen will last only 16 seconds, but it has a much longer range, and stays colder for longer.
