Loriax

The island of Thunder is always struck by lightning bolts. The sound and sight of these phenomena are a cause of awe. The island is known for its increased energy levels, due to its proximity to  The Sentinel. The town at the edge of the large island inherited both the name and the colors of the storm. The people of Loriax are proud, bold, and trained early to fight under dire conditions, thus considered among the best warriors of The Trident Empire. The city consists of minimalistic blue stone houses of various shades that are separated by dirt lanes and paved paths. The southern part of the island is characterized by its raw and rich nature, full of secrets and myths as well as dangers, rarely attracting visitors other than hunters.

History

Loriax is one of the largest islands in the Southern Seas, famed as the first waypoint of Mascardi Berio and the 21 Seagulls during their legendary expedition. However, Loriax’s history stretches far beyond Mascardi’s exploits, rooted in the ancient arrival of the Aquats and the enigmatic Shanah tribes.
Long before Mascardi’s crew sacked the island, the Aquats were drawn to the Isle of Thunder by the thunderbolts that relentlessly struck the ancient warren at its heart. Settling along the coastline, the Aquats are believed to have built the first homes near the shore. However, as they ventured deeper inland, they discovered the Shanah tribes already inhabiting the lands around the towering Rox Mountains and the massive warren known as the Eye of the Sentinel.
The Shanah tribes were diverse, with leaders and clans such as the Wolfhead Tribe, Giantbane, and Amarhand recorded in ancient Sahri carvings found in the island’s caverns. Despite their differences, the tribes united under a single revered leader: the shaman Thaldos.
Thaldos met with the Aquats, and the two groups reached a fragile agreement to divide the island. The Shanah retained control of the mountains, while the Aquats settled along the coast. For years, peace prevailed, marred only by occasional skirmishes between the two factions.

The Raider Invasion

The peace shattered when raiders fleeing the war-torn Forklands arrived on Loriax. Seeking prosperity in the uncharted isles, these raiders slaughtered the Aquats and claimed the coastal settlements for themselves. The Shanah resisted fiercely and retreated to the Rox Mountains. Despite their efforts, the raiders gradually overpowered them.
Thaldos made his final stand at what is now known as the Circle of Thaldos. In a desperate battle, many Shanah warriors were slain, and others fled to a sacred temple later called Veral. The raiders pursued them into the monastery, but before his death, Thaldos placed a curse upon his enemies. Legends say the group that killed Thaldos met a horrifying fate—twisted into monstrous abominations that became one with the walls of the temple itself.

Mascardi Berio and the Trident Kingdom

Years later, Mascardi Berio and his 21 Seagulls arrived on Loriax, drawn by tales of the island’s riches and strategic position. After earning a fearsome reputation across the Southern Seas, Mascardi clashed with the naval power of Lothen and, through this conflict, laid the foundations of the Trident Kingdom.
The Trident Kingdom grew into a vast empire of seafarers, adventurers, and conquerors who dominated the Southern Seas. Mascardi’s descendants cemented their claim as the rulers of Loriax, transforming the island into the heart of their mighty maritime empire.
