Rachel Belfour

Lady Rachel Dana Belfour (a.k.a. Flourish)

Rachel Dana Belfour is the younger sister of accomplished doctor and current Arcana Society director Adrienne Belfour, and the current Talon Grandmaster of the Octal, the Monarch of Mithambe's personal retinue. A taciturn and composed individual, she is known for saying little, instead following behind her Monarch's steps.   Prior to her ascension to the Retainers, she was known as an aspiring actress, the Lady of the Stage - whose silent songs and quiet steps could steal hearts and breaths. Rhythm and expression were the languages she chose to express herself instead of mere voice - her feet sliding on the ground and stage as if it were nothing but polished ice before her, the world itself being the canvas upon which she moved.   Hiding underneath this demure posturing was one of a fierce and calculating fighter - a masterful duelist who had learned to fight and to systematically dismantle her opponents with one timed strike after another. Instead of fighting with powerful invocations (which the rest of House Belfour is known and praised for), she instead fatally surprises those who attempt to jam her non-existent ethereal might with precise, bloodless stabs to their midsections.   Her sudden disappearance from the stage, followed by her sudden re-appearance as one of the top of Mithambe's social ladder, have energized her many fans and admirers, all of whom are curious to know how she came from the acting stage to the center of the world's political stage. To most, she keeps her lips sealed - the icy demeanor of her eyes and visage capturing many while also keeping them at bay.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

As a frontline combatant who specializes in stealth and dexterity, Rachel's physical condition is in top form. She is capable of feats of speed and acrobatics considered difficult or impossible for regular persons, and is fast enough to dodge even enhanced vector-type spells.

Specialized Equipment

As the Talon Grandmaster and one of the Retainers of the Throne, Rachel has access to the following equipment:
  • The Midnight Wings are a set of dual fighting fans, created by the bladesmith Arme Bellsardis, and further blessed by Creator of the Architect Merrill Van Dyne. Constructed from Sunkissed silk and Seraxi Deepsteel, the Wings complement Rachel's character and fighting style - a lady of the stage and a lady of war, all in one;
  • The Talon's Stilettos are jet-black stilettos that were gifted for Rachel from her elder sister, Adrienne, upon her announced ascension to the position of a Retainer. Engraved Amarian working arrays of speed and gravity alteration give Rachel immense flexibility when in a fight, as well as being able to move around people with little issue;
  • The Starcloak is standard across all Retainers, and allows for limited protection from blade, enhanced protection from spellwork, and the ability to render oneself intangible for a period of time.

Mental characteristics

Sexuality

"Have you kissed another girl before?" Zoey asked, as the two were alone in one of the towers of the Castle.   Rachel's eyes blinked for a moment, and then, with as straight of a face as she could muster, uttered one word. "Yes." Failing to fight back a blush, she could only look down, as the young tiefling began to assault her with questions to sate her own curiosity.
  • An admission of Rachel's leanings in a conversation with Zoey Caffret
  • Rachel would identify herself as heteroflexible - she is mostly into men, but there are one or two women whom she would not hesitate to get into a relationship with.   Those who are gutsy enough to tease her would go as far to claim that she is Jacob-sexual - that her eyes have always been glued to her Lord. Though she denies this and lashes out with feigned violence against those who tease her in such a manner, most (except the Monarch in question) have seen her inclination towards the Invisible King.

    Personality Characteristics

    Motivation

    Prior to her induction as a Talon, Rachel's sole motivation was to stand apart from her ethereally gifted relatives, given that sher did not inherit the same prowess or knowledge that her elder sister did. Constantly feeling that she was overshadowed in her House's realm of the ethereal, she instead stepped out, choosing to become a fighter instead.   After her induction into the King's Talons, she faithfully served King Marcus and his family, never straying far from their sides when requested. Countless hours were spent honing her combat prowess, and even her fellow Talons were awed and dumbstruck at her stride to not only be acceptable, but to be noticed - particularly by Prince Jacob, an observation that even King Marcus found heartwarmingly entertaining.   After King Jacob's ascension to the Throne, her motivation after accepting the treasured role of the Talon Grandmaster was to permanently be his shadow, and to protect him from come what may.

    Social

    Family Ties

    As the second daughter of the noble Belfour Family, Rachel maintains close links to her parents and to her sister, despite not being as accomplished as a magus compared to her father or her sister.

    Social Aptitude

    Rachel is considered introverted - rarely choosing to willingly interact with others, and instead keeping a low profile. When needed, she presents herself as a quiet but polite individual, deferring questions to those around her who are of equal or higher standing, and who are in a position to answer such questions themselves.   Her confidence comes into play on the stage or on the battlefield - where her words are her actions instead, and she lets her body perform most of the speaking.   Rachel's aloof disposition melts when she is with her Lord and Lady, instead being the one to initiate conversations, which entertain both Jacob and Iris to no end. They do their best to keep up with her.

    Mannerisms

    When on the job and idle, Rachel can be seen idly twirling her dual fans akin to batons in her hands, occasionally tossing them up and above her head in lazy sunsets.

    Speech

    "She is shy, and painfully so, but when she chooses to speak - it is almost a breath-taking, hauntingly beautiful song. She is more of a siren: her quiet but melodious voice promising destruction of anyone who threatens that which she loves - us."
  • Queen Iris Arlenia-Mitfield, talking to her husband about Rachel
  • Noted to be rare, Rachel seldom uses her voice, instead choosing to communicate via hand signals that are common to all Talons. As noted by Jacob and his wife Iris, Rachel's voice is just below room ambience, but carries a tone of elegance and beauty.

    History

    Rachel would come into Jacob's personal service shortly after the Falkner Square disaster of 1890, in which he personally approached her and asked if she desired something more than merely being in the waiting wings of his life.   Without hesitation, Rachel eagerly nodded, and took his outstretched hand, becoming his personal Talon and cementing her role in his life as a person who could be trusted.
