Singularity Character in Villain Academy | World Anvil

Singularity

Singularity's backstory is a tragic one, and a great proof that you can be both a victim and a villain. She is also a walking evidence of just how incredibly inhuman Archvile and the Villain Academy as a whole were, and that sometimes bad things happen to even the best of people.   Singularity announced her existence to the world of the living by participating in the Liberation Festival attack as a high ranking member of the VIllain Alliance of America and one of the closest lieutenants of Revenant. Her past remains unknown to the world, however. And for a good measure.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Heavily trained, is believed to have received some minor surgical augments during her 'stay' in the Villain Academy, but nothing particularly groundbreaking. Her face is marginally reshaped while in public with some light nanomachine coverage in order to hide her true face - the one of former hero trainee declared dead years ago - from the world.

Special abilities

Her inviduality is called Gravity Manipulation, and it's in fact a merger of two individualities, the second being given to her by Archvile. Her original one allowed her to manipulate gravity fields surrounding her.   She could render objects or people weightless on touch or amplify their gravity to a potentially lethal degree. She could change the direction of gravity affecting them or in the entirety of space around her, in order to make enemies fly to the side or even upside. The downside - similar to many external individualities - was that Singularity herself was immune to effects of her own individuality.   The individuality she received from Archvile was a very similar one, although an internal one. In other words - a power to manipulate her own gravity field. This, together with some minor equipment (like a mini-jetpack) greatly enhanced her mobility.   The merger created a single aberrant individuality, that could affect both herself and the area around her, while being stronger than their original forms. This allowed her to generate short-lived singularities. Points of gravity so strong that everything (aside from objects she excluded from it pull, such her own body and equipment) around them was pulled inside to be torn to shreds.   She can also use this effect to deflect or repel incoming gunfire.

Apparel & Accessories

Wears black and gold bodysuit, with thick wristguard and a backpack. It's all fireproof, acidproof and very resistant to impact and cuts thanks ot some rather advanced technology used in its production.

Specialized Equipment

Her wristguard contains a short-distance hook launcher, and her 'backpack' is actually a jetpack worked on the basis of compressed air that gives a lot of mobility when she negates her own gravity.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Singularity awakened her gravity-manipulation individuality relatively early on, allowing her to attend a hero school through a normal admittance. Her family was composed mostly of social workers and lower ranked governmental officials, being a relatively stable middle-strata household with no notable issues. Singularity loved her family, and her family supported her decision of using her powerful individuality to become a hero.   Especially as she had a clear superhero potential, her individuality being both powerful and versatile.   Following her admittance to a hero school, she developed a close friendship with Revenant, which according to at least some of the people who saw them together seemed to be at a major risk of developing into something closer than friendship. It wasn't meant to last, however. Singularity ended up being kidnapped during the Archvile-sponsored attack on the school, a fact that remained unknown to the world who thought that she died, the body left forever unrecovered.   Singularity probably wished that that it was the truth.   Instead, she was picked by Archvile to become a part of the Villain Academy's Harbinger Program. A scientific project that was supposed to develop a completely foolproof mind control. Less brainwashing/hypnosis and more a thorough reconstruction of one's mind, one that wouldn't fail simply because of a familiar face in front of them or even an application of appropriate individuality. A perfect way to produce new villains - from captured heroes.   Singularity did her best. But eventually, she broke - anyone would do, eventually. And some time after that, she was reshaped into a first 'working' prototype. A perfectly loyal villainous lieutenant and obedient bodyguard and servant of whoever was imprinted in her mind as owner. Archvile intended to keep for herself, the man not fully trusting anyone that could even theoretically betray him, but he ended up dying before imprint could happen.   Revenant met his old crush when he and several of his early followers (like Hypothermia and Decay were scouring through one of the remaining Villain Academy facilities, wiping out what was left from its staff and taking whatever could be salvaged for their soon-to-be villainous organization.   It was a painful reunion.   Singularity was rendered de facto unable to exist on her own, the time she was left in the lab un-imprinted almost ending up killing her. Revenant ended up imprinting her on himself, hoping to find a way to 'fix' her further down the line. To this day, despite doing his utmost, he did not succeed. Singularity continues to act as his bodyguard, aside from her brief participation in the Liberation Festival, which occured mostly because Revenant was severely lacking manpower.

Intellectual Characteristics

Reasonably intelligent and trained, however lacking experience to a considerable degree due to spending most of her supposed training time in Archvile's laboratory. No commanding skills to speak of, but is quite creative with applications of her individuality, and capable of reacting quickly to the changing situation on the battlefield.

Morality & Philosophy

Doesn't possess anything even resembling a cohesive moral system. She was mentally reshaped in her entirely to follow orders of whoever was imprinted as her 'owner' - she is capable of making alterations to the orders for as long as they follow their 'spirit' and for as long as the knowledge she amassed beforehand make her belief that her alterations benefit her 'owner'.   Whether her tendency to go for less 'bloody' options are due to her seeing those options as more 'fitting' Revenant or because of some leftover personality traits is anyone's guess.

Extremely powerful close-quarters combatant, with a versatile inviduality, high mobility and extreme destructive potential. Unfaillingly loyal.
