Beckinsale
Where the fortunes can bring new futures
Beckinsale, a bigger town compared to what you have seen before. Quite interesting, since it didn't exist for a very long time until around 8 years ago. The town mostly thrives off of tourism and travel through the city, but some stay for the excitement that the local entertainers give them. Even though the town has been formed fairly recently, the settlement seems to be well off. Since the land has been blessed by Olladra, the goddess of good fortune, people come here to have their fortunes read, futures dictated or pass through to get good luck. The busiest night of the year, however, is the Night of new beginnings, where the transition of the new year is celebrated.
Demographics
The town is very diverse in terms of races, ethnicities or wealth classes. While humans are prominently there, it is not hard to spot creatures of different species.
Species
Common: Human, Halfling, Half-Elf, Dwarf, Gnome
Uncommon: Half-Orc, Tiefling, Wood Elf, High Elf, Dragonborn
Rare: Firbolg, Kenku, Tabaxi, Tortle, Triton Wealth Classes
People in Beckinsale live mostly modestly, while there are some extraordinarily rich or poor people looking for resources, entertainment, luck, or salvation. Professions
Since the city thrives because of tourism, most people in the city either fall in one of two categories: hard-workers or entertainers. The hard working people focus on fishing, sailing, farming or smithing, while the entertainers make sure it was it's worth for people to visit or pass through Beckinsale.

Government
The settlement is run by the mayor (Jeffrye Faylare) that enacts the queen's orders and general laws, although it mostly focuses on the happiness of the workers and entertainers by having a council of guild leaders. However, the mayor also relies on the blessings of Olladra (the goddess of good fortune), thus the local cleric also has a spot on the council. So there are some different laws that exist in Beckinsale that are formed by the council and mayor. The government controls the food supply to ensure that the ecology stays intact, thus the farmers and fishers have to keep those rules.
The rules are enforced by crownsguards that are deployed to Beckinsale. Usually this means that the crownsguards are either locals that already lived here with their families, or they are deployed here and their family lives in a house paid by the crown.
Defences
The city has walls and wards to protect itself from the dangers outside of the city. While people are welcome, the crownsguards patrol through the city, on the outskirts and the wards to make sure the citizens and visitors are safe. Between the port and the town is another wall with a single entrance/exit and a ward.
The crownsguards in Beckinsale have an silver with golden plate armor and full helmet on and a teal cloak. Their weapons have teal with black detailing on it as well and their shield has a logo of the settlement on it.
Industry & Trade
The town tries to keep itself self sufficient at most, but mostly thrives for the tourism and ship travel. People that wish to travel to or from the islands most often go through Beckinsale, since it is the safest spot. The farmers and fishers try to export food to other settlements or the garrison, but this has been hard to do because of the dangers in the wildlands.
Infrastructure
The city has a huge port along the sea side (the Hope Piers). It is so big, that it even has a different location, separating the port and the town from each other with a wall. The settlement itself has a couple of wells, marketplaces, courtyards and three roads leading out of it. It has a handful of wards stationed at the roads and a toll bridge to the shipyard.
Assets
The people in the town generally live modestly. However, this doesn't mean that they don't like to splurge their money on a good night. The town is known to have a giant circus come in every year during the summer. Beckinsale also houses a great Inn, multiple taverns, a theater, a music hall and street food vendors to ensure that locals and tourists have a great time.
There is also a general store, souvenir shop, blacksmith and leather worker, printing press and a farmers market for people to purchase their needed goods. A local carpenter was also housing his work here, but his supply for wood has gotten quite low due to the fact that there are not a lot of trees nearby. The taverns also have a dependency on the ships to receive supplies of beer and wine, since they are produced on the small islands.
Guilds and Factions
Beckinsale is influenced by a number of guilds, factions and organisations that have a huge impact on the council. The leader of each of the following groups has a seat in the council.
- Saildew A group of fishers, sailors and shipwrights that have everything people need to go on or live off of the Harmonious Deep.
- Irondew A group of farmers, beekeepers and merchants who can grow, provide and sell most vegetables, fruits or animal products. This includes a single fabric specialist that is able to make cotton or wool fabrics and makes standard sets of clothes for other merchants around the kingdom to sell.
- Church of Fortune A church dedicated to the godess Olladra. The caretaker of the temple also provided a space for locals or visitors who need to pray to the Sovereign Host in general, but most people in this town are worshipping Olladra.
- Promise of Felicity A guild of bards, painters and performing artists that provide the care for the tourists and travelers in town. Their goal: to make it the best day of your life.
History
Once the Obsidian Chasm opened up, most people fled in one of two directions: into the forest or towards the coast. A group of people that fled together set up camp where Beckinsale resides today. The group started building a small fence to protect themselves, which is now the wall between the town and the shipyard.
Eventually, word spread around of this safe spot in this giant grassland. People came flooding in, seeking protection from the wilds. This is when things got rowdy around the place: too many people in too little space. A local cleric and devout follower of Olladra (named Jonathan Faylare) sought help, and prayed for a solution for them to come. This cleric was Jeffrye's grandfather. More people devouted their time to praying to the goddess. When she heard their prayers, the goddess has given the settlement help.
A ship from a renound bard named Orion came to the settlement, looking to see if he could take passengers to the islands. Seeing the people in despair, Orion decided to stay behind and lend his crew to the people that needed it the most. Instead, he started to perform and organize performances for people to see at night, to make them somewhat forget of the desperate times they were in. During this time, Jonathan thanked the goddess' efforts by putting his time into making the settlement a bit more habitable.
After two months, around half of the people managed to get to the islands, while others decided to stay as living conditions became much better. Orion eventually had to leave with his crew, but he and Jonathan helped built the settlement to grow into what it has become now. The cleric became mayor of the town called the settlement from now on Beckinsale - the name of the ship Orion is sailing on as of today.

Architecture
Residential
Residential buildings are typically made with wood, stone or a combination of both and with a thatched or wooden roof. Most residents have done something to their own house to make it stand out, such as painting the outside in a different color or having special decorations on their house / roofing. However, most people stick to a white or sand tone for their house with a (reddish) brown roof and teal accents. Merchants, Social locations or Guilds
Key buildings are a bit more colorful. Some have chosen to paint signage on their buildings, use black, blue or teal for details or have their produce partially outside. Taverns display large amounts of flowers on the outside of the building. Logistics and Government
Key buildings for the port, export or other means of transportation / communication have their rooftops painted in a teal color. The townhall, courthouse and wards have teal and black detailing on the windows and doors with the white painted walls to make it stand out. The walls are made of hard stone, with wards built into them.

Geography
The town lays partially on grassland, while the other half is more a coastal region. The port borders the Harmonious Deep and looks out to the Taunwater Isle. On the other side, the town looks out to a beautiful piece of grassland with a handful of trees before it reaches the gigantic forest.
