Aoi Kosaka

A refugee from the Hokubu March, Aoi fled Kyama and came to the mainland to raise her twin children as a single mother.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Quite weak.   Aoi's illness leaves her bedridden most days. On a good day, she is able to do a few chores around the home, but even then she needs her medicine to stave off the worst symptoms.

Special abilities

Aoi is schooled in the traditions of her people regarding Night magic. Passing said knowledge on to her children has been difficult given Sumire's affintiy for Sun magic and Ryu's seeming lack of affinity altogether.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Aoi hails from Hokubu, Kyama's northern most region. The village she grew up in rested near the border of Taiyo territory, though the two cultures kept relations civil.   When she came of age, Aoi was betrothed to a Taiyo man from the opposite side of the Shain river. While not without its controversy, their union was well received with some in both villages hoping that it was a sign of better relations between the two.   Such hopes were dashed within months of their wedding after the Northern Plague and the subsequent Hokubu March  Aoi's husband tried to deter the advancing army, pleading the Yorus' innocence for the plague. When it became known that he was married to a Yoru, he was branded a traitor and executed.   Aoi fled with other refugees from her homeland and across the sea to mainland Vestria. It was during her journey that she learned that she was pregnant with twins, Sumire and Ryu.

Education

Having grown up near Taiyo land and traded with their people for the better part of her life, Aoi is fluent in the offical Kyamese tongue.   Beyond that, she lacks any formal education and was instead brought up on the traditions of her people including hunting, foraging, and Night magic.

Employment

Once Sumire and Ryu were old enough, Aoi found meager work in a kitchen before her illness forced her to resign.

Accomplishments & Achievements

She is proud of having been able to raise her children and keep alive her husband's last gift to her.

Failures & Embarrassments

Aoi resents her illness and how it lead to her being a burden for her children.

Mental Trauma

Lost her home and husband thanks to the Northern March and, despite how proud she is of them, Aoi admits that she does not know how she could have raised Ryu and Sumire without help from other refugees.

Morality & Philosophy

Despite all she's suffered from them, Aoi refuses to paint Taiyo as purely malicious. This is in no small part out of respect for her late husband, who she considers as being proof against the attitude between cultures. While Sumire often faced harsh treatment from other Yoru for inheiriting her father's features, Aoi was happy to see a part of the love of her life live on in their daughter.   In a similar vein, she typically treats humans on an individual basis.

Social

Religious Views

Aoi pays lipservice to the Church of Rosaris as she and her children often need the aid it provides. She very much does not agree with much of he religion's doctrine, but remains quiet out of need for the community.

Mannerisms

Aoi is generally a very polite and carrying person.

None.   Given that they're already dirt poor, Aoi often has bouts of guilt for her medicine costing so much of what little her family has.
