Zach possesses a fit, toned physique thanks to his work as an artificer keeping him active for the majority of most days.

Zac is a secret Ore mage, allowing him to manipulate stone and metals.

Personal history
For his first early years, Zac was raised by a single mother, Rebecca Blackwater in poverty.
At age six, Zach performed his first feat of Ore magic while playing in a river. When he showed his mother, she slapped him and forbade him from using or even talking about his magic again for fear of losing the Church of Lothny's support they relied on.
Rebecca left a week later, saying that she had to go visit family while Zach stayed with Morgan Cullen and his family. Within a few days, Zach learned that his mother was dead.
Zach was soon officially taken in by the Cullen family and grew up under the care of the artificers.
Education
The bulk of Zach's schooling came courtesy of the Church of Lothny, where he first met and befriended Morgan.
As a teenager, Zach began training as an artificer in part to better his skills as a mage.
Employment
Zach serves as an apprentice under his adoptive father, Victor.

Rebecca's death affected Zach, compounded by his status as a mage.

Zach very much takes after his time being raised by the Cullen family, seeing the value of hard work and community.
It's thanks to that upbringing that Zach, while still having his hang ups about it, is able to view his magic as a part of himself.

Using his magic comes with mixed feelings for Zach given his insecurities stemming from Lothnic doctrine as well as his mother's death.
While the Cullen are accepting of him being a mage, Zach keeps much of his practicing of magic behind closed doors and refuses to use any magic in his work as an artificer.

History
The boys met while being schooled in the Church of Lothny as classes typically don't separate students by age. Morgan helped defend Zach when the latter was bullied by their classmates. The two would become close friends with Morgan filling a pseudo-big brother role towards Zach.
Relationship Reasoning
Violet finds Zach's honest interest in her refreshing while her cynicism and own honesty help Zach come out of his shell more.
Commonalities & Shared Interests
Both lost their mother's at a young age. Both also deal with how Church of Lothny followers look down on them (Zach for being a mage and Violet being a Half-Elf). This common ground is a major reason why Violet is able to help Zach come to terms with his magic.
