War of Dark and Light

The War of Dark and Light was a series of conflicts between the Dark Tribe and Light tribe prior to the landing of the Conflux expedition in Serropa.

The Conflict

Prelude

the Light tribe was suffering from an outbreak of Blight in the year 990. It was doubtful whether the tribe would last the winter if the disease continued to spread. However, a few Light tribe members had observed that, while most likely exposed to the blight, the plant life of the Black Forest was healthy and ostensibly blight-free. After attempting to gather some research samples from the forest, members of the Light tribe met a representative of the Dark Tribe and started a dialogue. The Dark Tribe demanded to know what the Light tribe was doing within their lands. The Light tribe replied that they were attempting to find a cure for the blight that plagued their lands and asked if the Dark Tribe would share their secret with them. the Dark Tribe then replied that the power to resist the blight was beyond their comprehension, and that they should find another way to solve their problem that didn't involve intruding upon the Dark Tribe's solitude. The dialogue then ended with the Dark Tribe representative saying, in essence, 'Don't let the grass kick you on the way out'.   After that, the Light tribe was both insulted and desperate. Before the year ended, they would send their first raiding party into the Black Forest, kicking off the War of Dark and Light.

Battlefield

For most of the war, the Dark Tribe stoically let their opponents make incursions into the Black Forest, which was, after all, to their great advantage. The Dark Tribe was accustomed to navigating dark areas with the use of Psionics, and they had spent years perfecting various vegetative defenses such as Snare Grass in order to dissuade curious explorers.

Outcome

After Many hard-fought battles, the Light tribe was finally able to penetrate the considerable defenses of the Black Village. Once inside, they found only a sparse scattering of resistance, which they quickly subdued. Hardened from years of war, the Light tribe strike force didn't hesitate to gun down any Dark Tribe member they saw, as none of them could truly be considered 'unarmed' while they wielded psionic powers.   Once the village was secure, The Light tribe began to search the Black Village and the Temple of Darkness for the cure to the blight that this whole war had originally been about. They found nothing of use. Some speculated that the Dark Tribe had destroyed the cure for spite before anyone could get to it. Others think that a small group of Dark Tribers escaped with it and are putting it to use for themselves as they ever did. Some say that it's like the Dark Tribe said in the first place: whatever it was, it beyond their comprehension.

Aftermath

The Light tribe's economic situation was not improved by the war, and they felt the effects of it over the next couple of years. In fact, the economic situation of the Light tribe was dire until they were absorbed into the Conflux many years later.   The extinction of the Dark Tribe very nearly wiped the art of Psionics from off the face of the planet. Only a very few psions survived the event, hiding out to prevent being caught by angry Light tribe members. For years afterward, independent groups of Light tribe members went out in hunting parties to finish off the last of the Dark Race in anger. As far as anyone knows, (and few even know this,) Paradox is the only living psion in the modern age.
