Battle of the Dark Incursion

the Dark Incursion was the only point during the War of Dark and Light when the Dark Tribe ventured out of the Black Forest in order to attack the Light tribe where they lived. It was a major turning point in the War of Dark and Light, and therefore the history of Serropan civillization.

The Conflict

Prelude

The War of Dark and Light had been going on for years, mostly consisting ofLight tribe raids on the Black Forest. Many Dark Tribe members had begun to feel that this war of attrition was no longer a viable strategy. Therefore, they began to plan an incursion into the Red Desert to occupy the Sun village and end the war once and for all.

Deployment

At length, the Dark Tribe sent a small force of psions into the red desert under the cover of night. Their instructions were to lay siege to the Sun village and force a surrender. Once they entered the mountainous region around the village, however, they were spotted by Light tribe patrols and an opposing force went out to meet them.

Battlefield

As opposed to all other major battles of the War of Dark and Light, The battle of the Dark Incursion was fought in the relatively open spaces of the Red Desert. As such, the Dark Tribe was unaccustomed to many of the factors at play. First off, The Dark Tribe force was very visible by the light of the moon and stars. This accompanied by the fact that there was no Snare Grass slowing enemy troops allowed the Light tribe to engage their foes with nearly all of their forces at once. Also, unbeknownst to the Dark Tribe, the Light tribe had developed massive siege engines that had been utterly impractical to employ within the Black Forest. Within the Red Desert, however, it was simple to station these war machines in the rocks behind their main troops and bombard the Dark Tribe force with boulders and explosives.

The Engagement

After the initial contact with Light tribe patrols, the Dark Tribe force was engaged by the more heavily armed and armored Light tribe shock troops. Accustomed to a more guerrilla style of fighting, the front ranks of the Dark Tribe were quickly torn to pieces by light tribe bolt guns before the Dark Tribe Psions were able to project hard-light shields to protect the group. Most of the Light tribe casualties happened during this short period when a lone squad of troops were forced to engage a highly-trained squad of psions wihtout backup. After a short exchange of blows, another squad of shock troops arrived at the scene, bringing with them a squad of Light tribe engineers toting war machines. While the engineers got to work setting up their engines of destruction, both squads of troopers engaged the psions, forcing them to maintain their shields and limiting their offensive potential. After a few lengthy minutes of battle the siege engines were complete and began their bombardment. The Dark Tribe's Hard-light shields were sturdy, but not invincible. Their formation broke under the bombardment and a hasty retreat was forced.

Outcome

The Dark Tribe incurred more losses from this battle than from any other conflict in the war. On top of that, they were not able to achieve their goal of taking the Sun village and the war continued.   While some may have viewed it as a step backward, The battle of the Dark Incursion provided a huge morale boost to the defenders as it was the Light tribe's first major victory of the war.

Aftermath

After this defeat, Many Dark Tribe members became more determined than ever to end the war by any means neccesary, eventually resulting in the creation of Quantum Collapse as a weapon against the Light tribe Which, ironically, was one of the greatest historical contributors to the Dark Tribe's eventual defeat.

oooo very nice conflict here. I hope its a good place to start for the world. im quite curious about the hard light you mentioned. it doesn't look like an article is ready. how does it manifest?   on another note, you handle the description of the battle well. I often get confused when reading those.

I never really answered your question about hard light...   So, in case you missed hem and you're still interested, you can learn all you need to about hard light in the 'Psionics' article under 'force projection' and my custom 'Barrier' 5e spell article.
