Snare Grass

Among the most diabolical of defenses preventing enemies from assaulting the Black Village is a tiny organism that covers the soil of the Black Forest. It's function is deceptively simple: grab and don't let go.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A single piece of snare grass consists of a small root system by which the organism receives sustinance and a roughly foot-long blade of grass lined with retractable microscopic hooks.

Growth Rate & Stages

Grass, after all, being one of the most successful organisms on this planet, snare grass proliferates quickly, efficiently, and quietly. Most would say that it has the capability of duplicating itself at an unnatural pace.

Ecology and Habitats

Curiously, despite snare grass's perfect capability to replace itself when destroyed, no blade of grass has grown outside the shade of the Black Forest. Some have postulated that the grass has some sort of mutualistic relationship with the trees that allows it to survive there and nowhere else.

Additional Information

Domestication

Snare grass is one example of a species that was modified and refined by the Dark Tribe over hundreds of years. In this case, snare grass was cultivated as a defense against explorers and later Light tribe invaders who got too close to the Black Village for comfort.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Upon close inspection almost any scientist would tell you that there is no way for the grass to react to outside stimuli; A conclusion that is most likely disproved by the fact that the grass has been witnessed and recorded in the act of reacting to other organisms within close proximity. The prevailing theory is that the grass has small feelers in it's roots that can detect small tremors from nearby footsteps, but no hard evidence has been discovered to prove this fact.
