The Clay Library

Built on the southern side of Arrapha, carved into a mountain lies an ancient, fire-proofed library. Instead of books, the library records and stores information on clay tablets, written by the scribes of the temples who are sent to do duty in the library. The halls are filled with floating yellow orbs, and metal automatons who search through the archives for whatever information is being requested. The information of the library is only accessible to high government officials and priests, or those with permission from such people. Since most dynasties have at least one member serving in the temples and another filling some role in the government, the dynasties have access to the library as well.

Purpose / Function

The library is the foremost store of knowledge in Arrapha, and it is the second largest library in the country. It is the only library with records made of clay tablets and thus considered something of an emergency, fire-proof archive.

Architecture

The exterior of the building is three stories tall, carved into a cliff side. It has large columns depicting fiercesome battles between humanoid forces and draconic aerial battles. The scene also depicts the mythos of the Draconic Pantheon, from Asgorath, the Betrayal of Baphomat, and the creation of dragons, to the destroyer of worlds and harvester of souls doing their duties. It shows Icasar hunting down a gargantuan monstrosity, and Malaestor creating massive storms and smiting those who have displeased him. All of the carvings are enchanted and reenact the scenes they depict. Above the massive entryway and inset between the columns are huge statues of the draconic gods, including Asgorath. Any who come near the library can feel the eyes of the gods watching them.   Inside the building is a tall foyer that has a large stone desk at one end. There are a few velvet chairs in the room as well, but most of the room is taken up by murals and statues. There are two halls stretching left and right out of the room, each hold private study rooms for the patrons of the library. Kobold servants provide food and drink while wab priests carry out any book orders and ensure nothing is stolen or broken. Two sets of doors in the foyer lead to the archives. Narrow tunnels and stairs travel deep into the mountain. These are smooth tunnels but they weren't crafted with precision. The first few rooms are sleeping quarters for the priests and kobolds who work in the library. The rest of the rooms are full of carefully sorted and stored clay tablets.   Newly created tablets are labeled and stored in the correct archive room, which is expanded when necessary. Automatons fetch the tablets and deliver them to a priest who has ordered it saying the correct command word. If the command word isn't uttered, they won't fetch anything. If a creature enters the archives without saying the peace word, the automatons will send out alarms, throughout the facility, to the other automatons, and to the heads of each temple in Arrapha, before attacking.
