Shane Barrett
Shay was bitten by a vampire at a college frat party and, while he didn't immediately turn, he started having symptoms that no doctor he went to could explain. He started self-medicating to deal with the chronic pain and the unexplained mood swings, and ended up dropping out of college, working as a day laborer wherever he could find someplace that wouldn't ask a lot of questions, and his nights in underground fights where he got something of a reputation for being uncannily skilled and fast. After a break-in gone wrong, trying to get more money to support his addiction, he was arrested and being held for trial for a double homicide when he was killed by some other inmates in custody. At this point, he became a vampire, and as a fledgling without the vampire who turned him to teach him the ropes, he ended up attacking several people before he was captured by vampire hunters. Now, he's in the middle of a tug of war between human and hunter justice systems, as to which should be able to call him to pay for his (alleged) crimes.
