Midrest
Midrest is a large town close to the border between The Kingdom of Vallanna and The Kingdom of Ashalla. Situated at the foot of a spur of the Silverpeak Mountains, on the banks of Sirith-dûn River, the town has been an important settlement for many centuries.
Thanks to its location, Midrest is a major trading post between The Kingdom of Vallanna and The Kingdom of Ashalla, and is the largest Vallannan town along the border between the two nations. At the same time, the town serves as a vital stopping off point for travel and goods heading through The Great Sirith-Dûn Tunnel to and from the Dwarven city of Steinstad and the harbour at Westport.
The town and the much of the surrounding lands and villages fall unto the purview of the Barony of Midrest, the seat of which is Midrest Fortress, a large castle overlooking the town. The current Baroness of Midrest is Celia Trevethen, niece of Queen Eryn Enarren.
Government
The town is ruled by a Baron or Baroness, with an elected council reporting to them. The current Baroness of Midrest is Celia Trevethen; niece of Queen Eryn Enarren.
Defences
It would not be an exaggeration to say that Midrest is the most fortified settlement in the Golden Plateau.
Overlooking the town is a large castle, known as Midrest Fortress, which serves as both the seat of power for the Barony of Midrest, and as home to a substantial garrison of Vallannan military units. During peacetime, around 1000 soldiers may be stationed within the fortress on a permanent basis. These troops are tasked not only with defence of Midrest itself, but are deployed to patrol the lands and roads of the Golden Plateau to ensure the safety of the populace.
The town of Midrest itself is encircled in a heavy stone fortification, with a number of watchtowers spaced around its length.These fortifications are manned by members of the Town Watch, which numbers around 60.
