Cathedral of the Platinum Dragon

The Cathedral of the Platinum Dragon; headquarters of The Priesthood of Bahamut is situated at the centre of the Temple District of Valliné, in The Square of The Almighty.   The cathedral is the largest and most architecturally ornate of all of the structures in the Temple District; octagonal in shape with a diameter of 500ft, rising to a spire 450ft in height.   Among all of the places-of-worship in Valliné's Temple District, the cathedral holds a special place of prominence commensurate with the status of Bahamut worship as one of the primary religions within The Kingdom of Vallanna.

Purpose / Function

The cathedral was constructed with the explicit purpose of being the central place-of-worship for Bahamut in all of The Kingdom of Vallanna, as well as serving as headquarters for The Priesthood of Bahamut, from which they can direct their organisation throughout the Kingdom.

Architecture

Constructed of white marble, the cathedral is octagonal in shape, rising to a spire 450ft in height, which can be seen from most of Valliné. The external decorations of both the spire and the main body of the cathedral are carved from the same white marble. These decorations are ornate, and have been produced with great skill, but in line with the philosophy of Bahamut, are not overtly ostentatious; conveying the grandeur and power of Bahamut without showing unnecessary pomp and ornamentation.   Internally, two primary naves of identical length cross at right-angles to each other; one travelling North-South, and one East-West, with the altar to Bahamut situated at their convergance, in the exact centre of the cathedral. The naves are each 500ft in length.   Pews for worshippers are arranged along the aisles of these naves to all be facing this central altar. The grand entranceway of the cathedral is situated at the southern end of the North-South nave.   From these two naves, multiple transcepts and smaller, more private chapels branch off, along with private quarters and administration facilities for members of the priesthood and other associated personnel.

History

Although a temple to Bahamut has stood on the site for as long as the city of Valliné has itself stood, the current cathedral was completed in the year 136, during the reign of Queen Tava, roughly a century after the unification of the The Northern Coastal Kingdom, The Middle-Lands, and The Southern Baronies, into The Kingdom of Vallanna. The construction of the cathedral took 17 years to complete.
