The Royal Trader's Guild of Illyria
The Royal Trader's Guild represents the most prestigious retail establishments in Illyria. Only one establishment from each trade (one blacksmith, one weaponsmith, one Herbalist etc) is permitted membership at any given time, so competition to join is fierce, and existing members must keep their standards consistently high or they may find themselves replaced by a competitor. Non-guild retailers may find that they must offer cheaper prices, deals and incentives or more exotic variety in order to tempt the most prestigious and wealthy customers to patronise them instead of the guild member.
The origin of the name is from the days before the Republic, when guild membership was decided entirely on the basis of those given patronage by The Royal House of Nerevarn. Although the Guild is now an organisation within the Republic the name has endured as a relic of the insitution's past, with membership now decided based on the judgement of a committee.
