Beloragaesiot Settlement in Uto Daeg | World Anvil

Beloragaesiot

Prompt #12: a settlement at the limits of the "known" or "civilized" world.
A sea-faring town known for their tremendous fish they bring to ports in Belor Ocean. It is an autonomous territory last held by Belon Daer. Founded after a ship blown off course by the Divine Pulse blew a merchant's ship off course.

Demographics

Mostly human. A surprising number of tieflings and dwarves call it home as well. Some merfolk enjoy the shallow, shaded waters.

Government

An island council takes on all complaints, crimes, and taxes. The council is elected every 6 years and no one can serve more than three times. This helps keep the island fresh, efficient, and people rearing children.

Defences

Several sea towers protect the western and northern shores, manned by marines. Every citizen must have training, though not everyone must be in the army and navy.   A fleet of less than a dozen ships, two of which are galleons, comprise the navy.

Industry & Trade

Fish and raw materials like coal and copper and lead are the chief exports. The island doesn't produce final goods, just the raw material. Still, this keeps the island well-stocked with small luxuries.

Districts

Fields

Farmers on the island's north coast receive warm winds blowing from Cryhton, so grains survive. Vegetables and meat are staple and take up the majority of farmland.

Mines

Central and eastern parts of the island have large hills with precious metals and coal underneath. Dwarves came under contract to extract the minerals within.

Docks

The West and South house many docks. South is for whaling, west for trading.

Metropolis

Not a true metropolis like capitals of other countries, but still boasts the majority of the islands' residents.

Wilderness

Not a large island, but still some wilderness exists between districts, though it's usually marshalled well.

Guilds and Factions

There are guilds for miners, farmers, and fishers. These cooperate together, but operate independently.

History

After the Divine Pulse, a merchant ship Kalamazad carrying goods and families blew off course from Kamabama to Gozlimer, crashing on the beach of the island. It was uninhabited by mortals, so the people, not knowing where they were and without a ship began to settle. Eventually, they grew to love the isolation and began to thrive.

Points of interest

Docks

The pretty sunset on the piers and docks cannot be overstated, especially on still evenings.

Central Metropolis

The tallest and most audacious building, a tower set to look like a giant temple to Avandra, watches over the city. It isn't used much besides a lookout, but the brass statue at the top is climbable and a favorite among lovers.

Janto's peak

The highest hill, steep as a mountain but not the right height in the eastern end stops the other hills from tumbling into the ocean. A hike to the summit is another must-see location, though it usually has snow.

Tourism

Only recently have people begun to notice the island besides its unique fish. Some come from Kamabama or Hezhz, but its remote location lends to its sought out isolation.

Architecture

Roofs are steeps and sloped to easily brush aside wind. Shingles of slate covering thatch are most common. Buildings are usually shallow and wide, except a few towers or places of worship.

Climate

The weather is mostly agreeable, if you like the chill. Summers are mild and warm, and winters are cold and snowy. Vernal is typically dry as the ground thaws. Autumns are damp and cloudy.

Natural Resources

Abundant, rich fish of various sizes and species are the most sought after resource. Copper is another highly exported material.
