Ashes to Ashes
Level
This adventure is set up with 4 level 13 Ultra Modern characters. It is intended to be a mostly relaxed adventure with a single difficult encounter at the end.Synopsis
A clan of salamanders, the Pyropups, are searching for a specific type of ash that is required in a ritual to their deity, Pyrotheus. In order to acquire this ash, they have opened a portal from the plane of elemental fire to the Kubota Garden in Seattle, and denizens of the salamanders are going about burning trees in the garden in order to find this ash.Structure
Resolution
This can be resolved if the party Defeats Cinder Tongue and/or Pyrotheus. Cinder Tongue is not eager to die and will agree to no longer seek ashes in the garden if it means that the party will spare his life.

Goals
The objective is to investigate the cause of the recent fires in the Kubota Garden. If possible, Tailha would also like the fires to be stopped and the garden to be protected.

The Bronze Hinged Box
The bronze hinged box has value, to the right people. If the players do some investigation (DC 20) they can discover that Brumir at the Bronzeforge Halls often collects such items.The 3 Jars of Ash
This is another item that has value, if offered to the right person. If the players do some investigation (DC20) they can discover that Dippletopp at Dippletopp's Tinkery is likely to buy this.Small Bronze Statue of a Salamander
This statue is clearly worth money and the party can easily sell it for $1,000. However, if they do some investigation (DC 20) they can discover that Anatta Mandha has been known to buy things from the Elemental Plane of Fire. She will pay much more for it or even trade a magical item for it. She would be willing to part with $4,000 worth if the right character approached her (Cha 10 or less).Relations

Kubota Garden
When the characters arrive at the gardens, allow them some time to explore the gardens. When they arrive at Maple Woods (area 11 on the Kubota map) read the following to them:You enter a cluster of beautiful Japanese maples with a colorful fall spectacle. There are several small creatures that appear to be made from gouts of flaming lava. They are currently burning down a pair of trees, and behind them stands a stout dwarf-like creature with flaming hair and bronze skin. Nearby is what appears to be a magical portal through which you can see a red glowing tunnel.

The magma creatures are 10 magma mephits and the dwarf-like creature is an azer. They are currently burning down the trees to get ash to take back to Cindertongue, the salamander leader.Portal
The magical portal leads to the elemental plane of fire where the Pyropups have their lair.Rewards
- The azer is carrying a bronze hinged box decorated with flame embossing used for collecting the ash. It contains a dozen glass jars, and three of them are already full of ash from other trees the creatures have burned down.
