The Civilized Gods

The Civilized Gods is the name for the pantheon of the Al'Quam Gods. There are generally 7 recognized Gods, each one with a natural and civilized aspects well as an alchemical material.
  • Korlash: God of Rulers and Speech
  • Ynara: Godess of Nature and Fertility
  • Shivo: Godess of Death and Laws
  • Elodar: God of Industry and Knowledge
  • Bruton : God of War and Trickery
  • Marith God of the Sea and Trade
  • Nashara God/Godess of Magic and Love
The pantheon is worshiped as a whole, with appeals to specific gods appropriate for the circumstances under that god's sphere of influence. There are clerics of individual gods, but the majority of worshipers are not devoted to a single god. Worship of the gods is relatively organized within the church, and officially endorsed and funded by the Al'Badadi Empire. The Devoted are dedicated as a whole to common causes of Charity and Community. They tend to be less zealous than those belonging to Solarism.

Structure

The Church is organized into a strict hierarchy, with the Archbishop at its head. Below him are Bishops, who have designation over specific geographic regions. Each bishop is served by a council of church elders, who make up the leadership of each individual parish.

Mythology & Lore

The Church teaches that in the beginning, Korlash created Ur, Dis and Sol as well as 6 other Gods. He demanded they each provide him with a gift to please him. Ynara went first, and her gift was to fill the land with plants and animals. Nashara went next and created connection between things, and thereby inventing Sympathetic Magic. Elodar was third and raised up some of the animals to speak and make cities, while Marith created great oceans by which they could travel. But then Bruton became jealous and corrupted these gifts, leading the people to fight and decive. Finally, Shivo created laws by which the people might govern themselves, most final of all was death.

Korlash look upon all of this and smiled, for he was pleased.

Divine Origins

The Al'Quam have worshiped the civilized gods for as far back as their history goes, but the official church has its beginnings at the dawn of the Al'Badadi Empire. Tuk'Badad realised that in order to solidify the diverse tribes of the Al'Quam, he would have to enforce some homogeneity upon their beliefs. Each tribe had its own customs, holidays and practices surrounding the same gods. He created a council of religious leaders from various tribes who would hammer out a code by which the new church would govern and a new canon they would follow. What emerged would become the Church of the Civilized Gods.

Tenets of Faith

The pantheon and it's church's teachings are numerous, bearing the weight of hundreds of years of codification, revision and changes of the moral and spiritual temperament. Most of the tenants remain under the same general principals.
  • Honor each God in their way, for it is by their guidance that we are shepherded.
  • Be merciful in victory, and humble in defeat.
  • Help those who need it, if you are helped, seek ways to return the favor.
  • No one is beyond redemption, no one is beneath compassion.

Priesthood

The clergy of the Civilized gods works differently than other faiths, in that often a Bishop is elected to their position and is then granted divine powers, rather than the reverse. This means that it is more important for the Devoted to be administrators, preachers or leaders in some form than to strictly seek the blessings of the Gods. It is not unusual for non-clergy to be granted these boons but one does not advance in the official hierarchy unless they can prove themselves in organizational roles first.

Granted Divine Powers

The Devoted are granted any number of divine powers. Many see the influence of a specific God who has smiled upon them in their bestowed abilities but this is not always the case.
