Culture and Cultural Heritage
Culturally Wood Elves serve as the working or peasant class in elven society. This has been a social tradition dating back to the first days of the Age of Creation when the High Elves lorded themselves over the Wood Elves as closer to their Gods.
While one would not be blamed for thinking so, there is actually no enmity between the Wood Elves and the High Elves. The social structures that exist in traditional Elven communities have simply been the way of life for literally all time, and the Wood Elves are not mistreated by the High Elves, as such a relationship would exist in comparable communities of Humans. The two main subspecies of elves recognize that they have different roles to play in their society, those roles are mutually respected between the two subspecies.
History
When the elves were first created by Solun, they were patterned after the Eladrin and Fey of the Feywild. The first elves, the High Elves lived high up in the mountain tops to be closer to their creator, while those elves that came after, that were less like the Faeries and more like Solun's own creation, lived deep in the forests of North Equikora, or the jungles of South Equikora.
Millennia in the deep woods of the world have produced excellent hunters and trackers who, even down to the color of their skin, have been bread to survive in the shadowy places of the forest.
