The Creation Wars

The Tome of Solun describes an ancient war that transpired between the Forces of Creation and Maferath the Destroyer. The exact details of this war have been lost to time, and stories told of the Force's victories and Maferath's defeat have passed into the realm of legend.

Summary

Comprising the near millennium that constitute the Ages of Conflagrations and Heroes Maferath, in his anger, constantly waged war against the children of Solun. During this time the worldof Unorrea became infected with demons and fiends that Maferath summoned from the abyss to serve him, as well as Drow, Orcs, Goblins and all manner of twisted an fell creatures as he continued in his goal of corrupting and perverting everything that Solun had created.   Young as they were the children of Solun: men, elves and dwarves were unprepared for the tidal wave of death that was suddenly on their doorstep and so the Forces of Creation, saddened by their wayward brother's actions, descended from their Creations and helped the children of Solun survive the assault of Maferath's forces.   This war between Gods, men and monsters lasted literal Ages, and the details of almost all of it are lost to time. What we do know comes directly from The Tome of Solun, apocryphal religious texts and ancient tomes explorers have discovered in forgotton tombs.

Historical Basis

The legends and myths told about the great battles of the Creation Wars are indeed based in some historical truth. While the details have been altered after retelling and retelling for centuries, evidence still remains of the great battles from that time. The Kazus Wastes in the far northern kingdom of Aldir is a prime example, being where Maferath's chief captain Kazus made his home and the land still bears the scars from his demonic presence. In the land of Fefiera, the fields still exist where the Kazuz was slain in single combat by Kanan. And the contested islands themselves all bear evidence that they used to be part of one singular island nation that was fractured apart, giving credence to the scriptures from The Tome of Solun that put the final battle between the Forces of Creation and Maferath in that region.   Evidence of the truth of these legends is all around us, but cultures all over the globe have different legends that they tell of this time and unfortunately not all of it...not even most of it can be verified by the evidence that remains.

Spread

Oh everyone knows about the Creation Wars, and all believed it happened...what they believed happened varies from person to person, but everyone is aware of the Creation Wars as a topic of discussion and study.

Cultural Reception

The Legends of the Creation Wars mean different things to each of the different nations. In Aldir, where Kazus himself ruled with wickedness, the Creation Wars are a symbol of freedom and hope that the Forces of Creation will always be there in the time of need. To the Fefs of Fefiera it is a symbol of their self worth, as it was their horsemen Kanan recruited in his battle against Kazus. And In Imperial Edane, as with all things religious, it is an important staple in their history and identity.

In Literature

Several tomes and books have been written about the Creation Wars for many different purposes. Many exist as supplemental material to be studied in conjunction with The Tome of Solun, others have been written with the purpose of trying to collect the disparate legends of the time into one singular volume. The most popular of these is Legends of Creation, written by Petyr Hume and is generally considered the most accurate and informed collection of different legends regarding the Creation Wars.

In Art

Plenty of paintings and tapestries exist that depict abstract images of the Forces of Creation engaging in holy battle with the forces of evil. None of these are considered canon depictions of any actual events, but more artistic expressions of the themes and moods that permeate the legends depending on the work's intended audience.
