Rex Maxum Rank/Title in Unahlum | World Anvil

Rex Maxum

The King is dead! Long live the king!   The Rex Maxum is the head of the royal family, and a relic from a bygone era kept around for tradition and love of the people. While in practice the Rex is little more than a glorified secretary to the Senate, it woudl be unwise to overlook his powers, and the influence the old King holds on the people of Ahntier.   Rex Maxum sets the agenda for the Senat, lead by the Princepts, and also manages the states treasury and finances, while keeping a full chronicle of the Senatorial meetings and changes. On top of this, the Rex is also the chief diplomat for Ahntier, though he is only allowed to follow the edicts of the policies set by the Senate.

Duties

The Rex must uphold the stature and dignity of the Ahntier Empire at all times when in public and abroad. He is to act always as the embodiment of the Senate and the State. The Rex is the head diplomat of the state, as well as its treasurer, chronicler, and tie breaker for the Senate. The Rex is also the only non-Senator allowed to call the Senate to assembly.

Benefits

The Rex Maxum resides in the magnificent Palace of the King, once the seat of the government for Ahntier, and all of the expenses of him and his family are paid for by the treasury of the state. The Rex has sole discretion over the treasury and so can spend it as he sees fit, unless such spending becomes a detriment to the Senate. As chief Magistrate, the Rex Maxum is also effectively immune to the prosecution of law, so long as he doesn't step on the toes of the sitting Princepts, who are the only two individuals who can prosecute the Rex Maxum.
It's good to be the king.

Accoutrements & Equipment

The Rex Maxum and his family live within an opulent palace and family grounds, and have access to the finest in clothing, transportation, food, and services. More officially, the Rex Maxum is meant to represent the splendor of Ahnteir, so has a royal garb that reflects current fashion and finery. The Rex also carries a staff that is the symbol of Ahnteir authority.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The Rex Maxum may choose to resign his position to his son upon reaching the age of 65, assuming his son has completed mandatory military service. The sitting Princepts may also decide that the current Rex is unable to fulfill his duties, and remove him by vote of the Senate. In extreme cases, the Senate may also replace the entire royal family with a new one. Though this has not been done in nearly five centuries.
