The Royal Family of Ahntier
House Altierian, the Royal family of Ahntier is the remnants of the past monarchy that once ruled over the city state in its youth. Now, in the age of democracy, the royal family is reduced to figure heads, secretaries of state, and ambassadors. Despite this change in fortune, the current royal family is still much loved by the people of Ahntier, perhaps even more so now that they no longer are the cause of the peoples woes. It is a testament to this popularity that the family has remained in such a position for the last three hundred years.
While the royal family may not be able to participate directly in the governance of their own empire any more, it would be folly to underestimate the influence they wield. House Altierian is one of the wealthiest families in Ahntier, and the head of the household, the Rex Maxum, serves as the treasurer of the entire nation. This along with the Regina Matars role of religious liaison, and the young princes and princesses who serve as ambassadors to foreign nations, and connections to the people give them a level of subtle authority that some in the Senate over look.
Structure
The royal family is a loose confederation of people, as any family is. With mothers and fathers, aunts and uncles and cousins abound. But there are some notable possitions. The eldest man in the direct linage is the Rex Maxum, king for all intense and purposes. His eldest son will become the next Rex. The Regina, or queen, is not always one married to the Rex, but the eldest daughter of the previouse Regina. Occasionally the family line diverges enough that the Rex and Regina will marry, and begin such a connection anew.
Public Agenda
The royal household of Altierian is surprisingly altruistic, which has endeared them to the people of Ahntier. In general the royal family is in support of the people of Ahntier, and in fully support of the republic. Publicly.
