Selkath
The region once known as Qal'at al-Jamr stood as a bastion of knowledge and magical prowess within the realm of Karamistan, nestled amidst the towering walls of the Ardent Keep, safeguarding the city of Selkath. This ancient metropolis boasted a long lineage of prosperity, tracing its origins to the zenith of a powerful civilization that guarded the passages to the Underdark.
At the heart of this illustrious city loomed the enigmatic Zuhrah Al-Mana, a tower of unfathomable purpose and mystical energy. Ruled by the visionary monarch, Arion Voss, Qal'at al-Jamr thrived under the guidance of the Astral Consortium, a council of mages revered for their mastery of the arcane arts.
Zuhrah Al-Mana, known for its radiant luminescence, was believed to be the source of the city's boundless magical energies. However, tragedy befell the land as conflict brewed between Karamistan and neighboring realms. Fearing an impending invasion and seeking desperate means to protect the city, Arion Voss, in a catastrophic decision, attempted to harness the tower's latent power. This ill-fated endeavor led to the cataclysmic event known as the Eclipse of Arion.
The unleashed energies devastated Qal'at al-Jamr, obliterating the city and casting it into ruin. The once-proud citadel of Ardent Keep, a symbol of strength and wisdom, lay in shambles. The land above crumbled, leaving behind a desolate wasteland now known as Karamistan.
Amidst the chaos, a group sought refuge underground, led by the remnants of the royal family and their guard. Fleeing into the region that was once guarded and locked away by the Ardent Keep, they would encounter their longstanding enemies in the under-dark. It is said that in a rare moment of what might have been mercy, a deal was struck between what remained of the royal family and the Spider-Queen Lolth. It was upon this agreement that Selkath would be created, standing in what was once the blighted forest just beyond the true gate to the under-dark, a sanctuary beneath the ashes of their former civilization.
