The Rough Sea

Where the Highoak Woods and the Mallowshore make way for water, the Rough Sea begins. As notoriously trecherous as the surface waters are, the underwater life is one of the busiest of all of Matonga's seas. The rough sea neighbours the Arch Sea and the Southern Sea.

Geography

Some small cliff island groups exist in the Rough Sea waters, scarcely populated. On plateus deep enough for the waters to be relatively calm, but not too deep that no light can reach it, Tritons have settled. One Triton villages that is sometimes visited by non-aquatic races is Glaras. The city Merrus is farther removed from the shore.

Ecosystem

The Rough Sea consists of moderately-temperatured salty water that hosts all types of aquatic species, from miniscule plankton to mighty Sea dragons. Along the shorelines and cliffs one may find the parallily flower.

Ecosystem Cycles

The southbound current brings cold water during the winter and warm water during the summer. Larger mammals use this stream to migrate to warmer waters during the winter.

History

Long before the Era of Chaos, the seas of Tunoda were home to a beautifully diverse collection of humanoid-aquatic species. During the Era of Chaos, most of them fell prey to the Old Ones, leaving behind only a few well-hidden settlements. After the Firal had restored peace, resources remained scarce and when species began to settle, they got territorial and many wars were fought. As a result, the aquatic races of Tunoda are divided into territories, while disputes remain. The Rough Sea remains mostly populated by Triton.

Tourism

Aquatic tourism is scarce, due to the ongoing rivalries for sea-territory. Ceatures from land will visit sporadically when Parallilies are in season, but are not often seen.
