Glaras
Underwater village in The Rough Sea , about two kilometers out of the cost of Cithrea.
Arriving from the surface of the sea. As you get used to the pressure of the water around your body, you slowly descend along the cliff into deep blue-grayish waters. The strong current makes you tightly hold onto the rock, in fear of being swept away. At first, you do not know what to look for, but after a while you notice a faint glow coming from an opening in the rock beneath you. Once you get closer, you see the round opening in the cliff side, with some unfamiliar text carved in the stone. You and your friends go through the round hole and enter Glaras. The first thing you notice is the lack of current within the village, and you use the moment of relaxation to have a look around. The tunnel that functions as the main street slightly carves to the left ahead of you so you cannot see the end. Alongside the tunnel you notice an abundance of small round holes, large enough for maybe two persons to squeeze through together. They can be seen left and right, as well as in the ceiling and on what would be a floor of people walked here instead of swimming. Most of the holes omit a faint light, while others are closed off with fabric. Once every few seconds a triton emerges from one of the holes, swims for a bit in the tunnel and enters a different hole.
Demographics
About 90% of Glaras is inhabited by Triton, with the other 10% consisting of lizardfolk.
Government
Glaras falls under the kingdom of queen Sarlimyn Ollath. The queen has appointed Flinryn Ela as mayor, who divies her time between the capital Merrus at court and at home in Glaras. In her absence, Cernes Usath is acting mayor.
Defences
In current times, the village has no need for defenses other than those from the sometimes strong currents, which is naturally provided by the caves in which the homes and shops have been built. Being on the outside territory of the Triton kingdom, surrounded by land (and why would the land-walkers suddenly wage war on an underwater village?), the population of Glaras does not fear the wars being fought in other parts of the sea.
Industry & Trade
The economy of Glaras is largely dependent on trade with the mainland and a transport crew often makes the two-kilometer journey to Cithrea to trade their wares (deepsea fish, fresh seaweed and treasures). Likewise, land-based creatures can often be found in the village for trading purposes, but after a few days their skin will be so wrinkled that they have to go back to the surface.
Infrastructure
Homes are build in caves and decorated with underwater plants. For land-based creatures looking to stay overnight, there is an inn with a fresh-water reservoir and a steady supply of Parallilies of which the twins are continuously guarded at a nearby cliff.
Architecture
The homes and communal buildings of Glaras are built in caves, to protect form the strong current.
Geography
Glaras is located near a cliff so high that it breaks the surface of the sea. The cliff marks the side of a submarine valley in which the village lies on the side. The bottom of the valley is so steep and narrow that no Triton knows how deep the chasm actually is.
Natural Resources
Near the deep part of the chasm, deepsea fish live in large numbers. The catch of the day always makes for a good trade with villagers or land-walkers.
