Summary

A young man who has served loyally as a Tachibana Clan samurai since his childhood. Uchida Shigeie's manner and discipline mark him as a cut above the average soldier, and he was usually among those chosen for special assignments. He trains with the heavy spear every day, always trying to get just a bit better than his friend and rival, Nakae Niyoshi. No matter how much effort he puts in, however, he never seems to make any real progress. He tends to complain about this fact rather loudly, especially once he's had a few drinks. In Shigeie's world, effort put in should result in an equal amount of reward, and he finds it too unjust that it seems he'll never be able to reach the ranks of legendary swordsmen and samurai like those above him.
