Summary:
A man who is known as the progenitor of horror, among the most powerful of Dreamers. It is thought that his knowledge of the Dreamlands rivals even that of Kuranes himself, and he is privy to powerful occult secrets not known to other mortals. As with all Dreamers, Howard Phillips Lovecraft (often simply shortened to H.P.) was once a human man. His exact origins are unknown, however, and he may not truly hail from the same land or time as many of the other inhabitants of Celephaïs. Lovecraft himself asserts that he was once a frightened, hateful person. A fear nested in his very soul that drove him to create horrors unimaginable in the simple medium of pen and paper. Upon reaching his apotheosis as a Dreamer, however, he discarded this frightful aspect of himself. What remains is a calm, confident man possessing extensive knowledge of things that most humans dare not even consider. That abandoned portion of his self is still present somewhere in the Dreamlands, or so he claims. Few have met with it, and the reports from those who have are hardly considered reliable. In Celephaïs society, Lovecraft is celebrated as an explorer and genius whose vast knowledge has helped make the City of Dreamers what it is today. He is good friends with the voyager and cartographer August Derleth, though many say that Derleth is merely following in a path Lovecraft already blazed. Whenever an event occurs that threatens the stability of Celephaïs or the Dreamlands as the whole, these two are often the first on the scene and seeking a resolution. When his skills are not needed, however, Lovecraft prefers to reside in Baharna on the Southern island of Oriab. In the port city’s Chieftain, Veasna, he has found a rare intellect equal to his own. Though the two are not exactly friends, their shared wisdom and thirst for knowledge have founded a bond not easily severed.
