Luicarnyelle village Settlement in Tremanac | World Anvil

Luicarnyelle village

A village deep in the forest which is best known for it's unusual workers

Government

Situated in the central part of the forest Luicarnyelle has rarely suffered from the troubles afflicting the outside world. Like other villages in the region, Luicarnyelle has been protected from fiends by the Lord Starbrow’s barrier, and from more mundane threats by the army and layers of wards created by the spellweavers.   Centuries of peace have allowed the people of Purplebell to adopt a communal form of decision making. Decisions about things affecting the village, settling disputes, and dealing with uncivilised behaviour are all handled by the village as a whole. The voice of every adult in the village is given equal weight, with decisions made based on the majority view. Even the representative sent to Calen Tal tel’Taure is chosen based on a majority vote.

History

The village would barely rate a footnote in the history of the forest were it not for Tandariel Shimmerstone. Tandariel was a wizard who was inspired to specialise in the school of necromancy by tales of Miluril Starbrow. However, he moved too fast in embracing the less popular aspects of that school and the village voted to cast him out. Some centuries later, when the worship of the Lord Starbrow was becoming established Tandariel returned to the village with a proposal. He wanted to continue his work on using necromancy, in line with Starbrow’s teachings, and find ways to address the villagers’ concerns with the idea of using corpses as workers.
This time the villagers voted in favour of Tandariel, allowing him to begin his work. It was not a quick process, with issues both practical and philosophical to be addressed, but Tandariel succeeded in his efforts and this village became the first place to truly embrace what are now referred to as Dariworkers.
A life of Leisure?
One of the early concerns with the Dariworkers was that they would remove the need for people to do anything. While this was an overestimation of their abilities as the Dariworkers cannot replace a skilled crafter, there were legitimate concerns about those whose main occupation was manual labour. This was gotten around by having those who used to perform labour supervise the Dariworkers.
The Dariworkers are now an established part of Luicarnyelle, freeing the inhabitants from many of the mundane chores they used to undertake themselves. The village is now held up as an example of how the proper use of necromancy can be of benefit, and how the Starbrow’s teachings can overturn millennia of prejudice and fear.

Architecture

Like many other Taurim settlements, the houses in the village consist of several rooms grown out of the upper parts of the trees. Access is granted through rope ladders and narrow rope bridges between the trees.   With the weather being controlled by the kingdom's spellweavers, large gatherings can reliably be held outside. One large clearing is set aside for ceremonies and the near nightly votes on matters affecting the village. Chairs, benches, and tables for such gatherings are stored in a hollow grown in the base of a large tree on the east side of the clearing.

Natural Resources

The village was named for an unusual variant of the bluebell flower that grows in the vicinity. The Luicarnyelle produces a liquid which is unusually effective in holding divine power. Although attempts at growing the flowers elsewhere have failed, the residents of this village have struggled to exploit their monopoly as the liquid is hazardous to extract, and the flowers themselves do not grow in great quantities.

Tandariel's Workshop
Since the magics and materials used to create Dariworkers can be hazardous Tandariel had a stone building constructed to the south of the village. This structure was made of loose stones that were shaped and joined to create a domed structure. To reduce the visual impact it was than covered with earth and planted with flowers.
