Immaculate Throne

This 7ft tall throne is sheathed in gold and served as the seat of the ruler of Filishar during the first and second ages.   During the first age the Kingdom of Filishar was faced with a crisis. The king was suffering from ill health and the crown prince was generally considered to be lacking in personilty, knowledge, and common sense. With enemies threatening the kingdom by land and sea there was a need for a strong leader to take over from the ailing king, but none of the factions could agree on who should act as the prince's puppeteer. While a few suggested removing the prince entirely the high priest, Hadrien Caberson, caught wind of this and tock steps to make it clear how unacceptable he found this idea.   knowing that the kingdom would be overrun without a capable leader Hadrien prayed for guidance and was granted a vision of a magnificient throne with the prince sitting on it passing out wise judgements. When Hadrien awoke from the vision he realised that he had been gifted the knowledge to create a throne capable of overcoming the prince's lack of ability. However, crafting this throne would require a large amount of coin so Hadrien summoned the leaders of the factions and told them that after consulting his deity he had learned that the best way to decide who was suitable to advise the prince was to see who was most willing to donate funds to support the kingdom. After getting Hadrien to swear that the funds would be used to help the kingdom and not the church, the leaders of the factions agreed and gold flowed in, as they all tried to outdo each other. Hadrien funneled these funds into creating the throne, and had his acolytes begin the process of working blessings into it.   The king's health was failing by the time the throne was nearing completion and the nobles were beginning to clamour for an answer on who was to help guide the prince. After acquiring the king's permission, and having checked with his own deity and the acceptors of death, Hadrien prepared one final ritual to infuse the throne with the king's experience. Although the ritual worked the strain was great on the king and he died a few days later. Unable to delay any longer, Hadrien named the Earl of Seridon as first advisor the king before arranging for the throne to moved into place for the prince's coronation.   There were many among the nobles of Filishar who expected the new king to somehow make a mess of his own coronation, probably through forgetting the oaths or falling asleep halfway through. They were therefore very surprised when the new king was attentive and alert throughout, and even more surprised by the inspiring speech he gave at the end. None were more surprised than the Earl of Seridon who had spent some time coaching the new king on an entirely different speech. After the ceremony the King seemed back to his usual inattentive self and it wasn't long before the Earl realised that the throne must have some special properties. Deciding to test this theory, the Earl snuck into the throne room one night to try sitting on it himself. His body was found the next morning next to the throne with terrible burns on the back of his body. Word quickly spread that the throne could only be sat on by the rightful ruler, and that anyone attempting to usurp the throne would suffer a painful death.   Over the generations many came to consider the throne as not only the ruler's seat but also a trial that only the true king could pass. What they didn't know as that the enchantment was keyed to a bloodline rather than any suitability for the rulership of the land. So it was that when Cerris defeated her brother and took the throne it was not her right to rule that let her sit safely in the throne, though many took it as such. With an ever expanding pool of candidates brnaching off from the royal line, the significance of the throne's ability to detect the bloodline diminished asd was forgotten. The throne still retained it's symbolic and practical usefulness through the first age, but when the kingdom joined The Alliance and the king had t ospend more time away from the throne it started to became difficult to conceal how much help the ruler of Filishar was receiving rom the throne. However, the throne remained in use until the end of the second age when it was lost during the War of Ascension.
