Captain’s Sea Chest

This heavy sea chest was commissioned by Nathaniel Greth for Seamus Havendon as a reward for agreeing to command the End of Darkness Expedition.   The chest is made of dark stained pine, with brass fittings at each corner. Brass handles with padded leather grips adorn each side, along with a heavy lock to keep the lid closed. The front and sides of the chest have panels of lighter pine which are painted with scenes from HMS Curiosity's first voyage. On the lid is a carefully painted message
From a grateful country to it's greatest explorer.
At the Forefront
The interior of the chest has shelves and small drawers on either side, and thin wooden panels separate the main space into thirds. The underside of the lid has a series of leather straps and buckles to hold a variety of weapons in place.   A thick cushion in the black, white, and gold of Caresnas can be affixed to the lid to improve it's use as a seat. Somewhat embarressed by the dedication Seamus typically leaves the cushion attached to avoid drawing attention to the message.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The chest was designed with Seamus very much in mind. Any clothing, including boots, hats, and gloves, placed into the chest for an hour will be cleansed of any dirt and stains. MInor rips and tears will be fixed, with nary a trace of where the damage once was. Shirts and jackets will be pressed and neatly folded, and items like damp boots will be thoroughly dried. If a supply of suitable buttons is left inside the drawer on the righthand side, the chest will even replace any missing ones on the clothes.

A space in the captain's quarters aboard the HMS Dass was set aside for the chest, with beams to keep it off the floor and clasps to hold it in place. The dimensions of the chest were shared with the captain's of the other three Frostburn Class vessels so that they could have similar sized chests in their own quarters.
