Selene's Shifting Item

A Personal Storage of Divinity

Selene's Shifting Item is the Divine Item of the Jealous Goddess of the Moon, Selene. It holds the Item Magic known as Copy Magic, said by many to be one of the five great magics alongside Death, Soul, Mind, and Time magic.

The Goddess's Question

Selene's Shifting Item by Max A Million
No one is certain what the true form of Selene's Shifting Item is. Many believe that it has no true form, and instead was created of pure divine energy from Selene herself.   When one first gazes upon it, they will see something special to them. It will take the form of a beloved personal belonging, but as they look at it closer, they will find that it changes shape, taking on various forms right before their eyes. Shifting.   The closest anyone has gotten to discovering its true form was when a member of the Zavese Collective was shown the item, at which point they explained that, to them, it looked as if there was something corrupting the world itself. An item that did not belong and should never be held by mortal hands. They described that it looked wrong, as if it was never meant to be gazed upon.
"It is flat, but not like a table, instead as if space itself folds around this item. Rid yourself of it or be purged. The world cannot sustain itself as long as it exists."
Selene by Jarhed
Some believe that it only appeared as such to them because of the detachment of the Zavese, and do not listen to their warnings.

Power

The Shifting Item unlocks the magic within the wielder, rather than carrying Copy Magic itself. Only one person can wield it at a time, and only when they die can it be passed on to whoever holds it next.   Copy Magic allows the user to use any spell that they had seen performed, keeping the spells stored in the item itself.   This ignores their natural elemental affinity, allowing them to use anything from a different element to a different Item Magic entirely, as long as they've observed it.

Item Magic

Selene's Shifting Item is one of many Divine Items that contain Item Magic, a magic that derives from the domain of one of the Gods. The others are as follows:

  •

Once they've copied it once, they can use it forever. Their mana is the only limit.   Copy Magic users can also change the spells to a certain point. They cannot copy the exact circumstances around the spell, and thus they can shift the spell to suit their circumstances, even changing it almost entirely until it becomes something nearly unrecognizable from the original spell, as long as it is at least like what they had seen initially.

History

Most are certain that the Shifting Item was one of the final Divine Items to be created. Selene is generally late to following the trends of other Gods, as most do not like to inform the Jealous Goddess of what they are doing.   Its power implies that she did not know of a great power to rival theirs, and instead decided to steal all of their powers, though some scholars say that it is likely just that it is a manifestation of her jealousy.
