Oakhearth Settlement in Toriel | World Anvil

Oakhearth

The city, as a capital, is necessarily an important city, and the commercial exchanges are numerous, the inventions of the whole country often pass through here before being sent back to the neighboring countries, so, these transactions are the main source of income of the city. In addition to this, there is a growing labour force, working in various workshops to be able to manufacture more and more things directly on the spot.

Description

The city is located in the middle of plains and valleys, with a large river nearby providing water for the inhabitants and irrigating the fields. The city is located on a position a little higher than the surrounding hills, giving a strategic position, and the three main roads leading out of the city allowing a large flow of goods and people into the city.   The city has expanded over the years, the city has spread far beyond its walls. There are 5 different neighborhoods in the city.

Bigtree (Purple)

The old district, the old buildings extending mostly within the walls.   The Observatorium: A single tower on the edge of the Bigtree disctrict within the walls of the city looms high above the nearby buildings. It looks forever skyward, the arcanists inside constantly charting the movements of heavens. A quasi-religious order of diviners and astromancers, supported by the Biblioplex's headmistress, study here.

Greyhard's Barrel (Pinkish-red)

The rich and noble district, always within the city's wall. A wealthy and prestigious inn, the Red Herring is in this district and offer a place to sleep for those wealthy enough to pay a romm here. The Biblioplex, the city's largest library is also in this district, and his widly regarded as one of the largest library in the kingdom, or even in Toriel.

Polder Bolder (Yellow)

The district of the new rich, merchants and talented inventor have settled around the castle but outside the city's wall as the space inside was already filled.

Skyport

Luxurious passage through the clouds themselves—it's a romantic idea cultivated to appeal to the wealthiest citizens of the Lightfoot Kingdom. As an added bonus, Skyships travel avoids the inherent dangers of a journey by land or sea, and is more readily available than teleportation Magic. These beautiful airships range in size but generally are the same size as a merchant coaster. Skyships are held aloft and guided with the help of three or more enchanted crystals, which are installed along the hull or topside of the ship.   Skyships are reserved for goods and individuals who want to circumvent the slow speed or danger of an ocean voyage and can afford the exorbitant cost of air travel. No commoner can afford to charter a skyship, and the lower classes of Toriel generally see air travel as just another way for the wealthy elite to lord their superiority over the poor. Others, however, see the majestic craft as aspirational and long to become rich enough to afford one, or skilled enough to pilot one.   Oakhearth possess a skyport, like Hillfar. Few skyships in service will deviate from the dedicated shipping routes between these major cities.

Golgo's Square (Orange)

The district to the south, stretching outside the city's wall, is a modest district, historically the neighborhood was mostly inhabitated by peasents, but nowadays, the lower classes are mostly packed here.

Giant Colossus

A giant colossus, something you can see from a distance and that allows you to easily make out where the city is, is above the entrance of the city. it is a Gnome invention, probably there greatest so far as the colossus is a construct, and serve the defense of the town in case of extreme danger.

Sid'Ka (Red)

The poorest district, the hard-working and poor part of the city, smell like sweat, shit, and burning wood. The majority of those who live here don't have a choice.
