Kingdom of Themis

Description

Themis, or the official name Kingdom of Themis, is the kingdom on the eastern side of Titan. It is an ancient land of justice, that is the home of the followers of Hellenism. Themis is a country made up of numerous city states banded together to fend off the northern elven side. Each city state has their own culture, from the justice ridden Athinai, to the more Glory filled city state of Lacdaemon. These city states has their own history and patron they worship within Hellenism. The country mostly consists of humans, with an elven minority. The elven race are descendants of the northern side, and numerous land disputes that has resulted in war and annexation from both sides.
Politically, the head of state and head of government is King Alexander Thymós, whom lays claim to all land of Themis. The king is chosen by the Council of Civitas, a council from each city state, chosen by the people. This council has the power to approve or veto the king's decision by a majority vote.

History

Although civilization emerged as early as before year 0, Themis city states first came to prominence around year 900. These city states lived in harmony, with the occasional wars every now and then. It was only until the year 1200 that things started to change. The northern elves started to invade around year 1200, seeking to expand territory and recourses. They are led by a powerful and ruthless king, who commands a large and well-trained army of warriors and mages. For a year, the elven army sweeps through the lands of Themis, conquering lands, cities and villages. In the year 1202, the army landed in front of ancient Athinai. The at the time general Actaeus rallied the other city states to push back the elven army, for their home and honour. A year later, Actaerus has rallied most of the major city states, and successfully starts to fight back. In the year 1204, in a one last ditch attempt from the elven invaders, they charge for ancient Athinai, facing off Actaerus, and the leaders of the allied city states. This resulted in a decisive victory from the city states, as the elven king is killed, and the surviving elves flee.
A year later, the land of Themis was now in peace, and the city states celebrated their triumph, and honour their falled warriors and heroes. On that very same day, the city states swore to never let Themis be invaded again, and decide to maintain this alliance, and formed an official kingdom. The first king Actaeus, was chosen by their bravery and honour. Along with a king, The Council of Civitas was created to keep the king in check. This council is filled with representants of each city state, and has the power to either approve or veto the king's decision by a majority vote. The council also elects a regent in case of the king’s absence or incapacity.
King Actaeus, the first king of the newly founded Themis, founded the the capital city of Athinai, and built the royal palaces and temples. An era of peace was upon them, as the next king and queens in line made numerous changes to the young country.
Queen Mida, the third queen of Themis, made the country more democratic, by allowing citizens to vote in the Council of Civitas. The seventh king, King Leonidas, defended the country once again from the northern elven side, and notably lead an army of 300 people down the pass. He sacrificed his life to defend his home. The tenth queen, Queen Cassandra, lead her army and took over more land and islands for Themis. She is known for her military tactics, and is thought to have been King Actaeus' reincarnate.
In the year 4999, King Orestes faced off against The Great Awakening and lead an army along with numerous other countries to face off Mortum. The king would die on the battlefield, along with all of his soldiers.
The current king, King Alexander Thymós, is the current chosen king, and stands to continue his fathers legacy, and strengthen Themis.
