The Elvenblood Tapestry

Elves are beloved by their god, or so they preach. A creature of a thousand faces, a thousand lives, a thousand stories to tell, they created their children to join their in their play, that all might share their stories with them. When their children rebelled, and were cast from Arcadia, their love did not diminish, and the elves were gifted with bodies that were graceful and swift, and lived long, long lives. But in those stories, as they met and loved and laughed, they encountered creatures that were not elves, and they loved them too. And from those unions, were borne children that were not elves, and they were forced to ask- who were these new creatures, both elven and not? Were they elves born again in frail bodies? What did this mean for the love of their god?   At last, an answer was found- what more could a god of stories wish, than for new stories to be told? New characters, new lives, new forms- These too, could be elven souls, in new bodies. In fact, so too could elves be born again in any form, with their own tales to tell, and those who shared their love could join them in the cycle, one more story among many, for all those who played their part.   Thus was born the Elvenblood Tapestry, a nation of families bound by both the blood of lineage, and the blood of oaths, and where once lived only elves, now were dwarves and humans and dragonborn and halfbloods, each with a story to tell.   Yet all stories end, even with the lifespan of an elf. One day, the Queen of Briars came to power. And since then, she has slowly but surely wound her tendrils through every facet of the tapestry, snarling the weft and weave, until a queen in name became a queen indeed, and the light was choked from the garden. A rebellion rose, and fell, crushed beneath the tyrant's heel. Now, the families bow to their queen, collared by the knives against the neck of their loved ones. Her Thorns march the land, and freedom withers in their presence. Beings are born, live, and die, never knowing life away from her grasp.   However... All stories end. Even hers.

Structure

The Council of Advisors: The tapestry was governed by the heads of the families much the way that a group of friends would organize their amateur sports league. Rules exist, and are known simply by dint of personal history. Consensus was obtained, simply by everyone being working more or less towards the same goals. There was grudges, there were disputes, there was a hierarchy of sorts, but at the end of the day, the elaborate system of checks and balances remained in place simply because nobody tried to escape them.   For a time, this way of doing things was passed from Triarch to Scion via dint of experience, bringing their children along to the meetings and giving them time to grasp an understanding of "How things worked." Once shorter lived beings began to join the dance, however, Triarchs could no longer guarantee that their Scion would be able to grasp the nuance within the meetings before quickly enough to take part before their time was up.   As such, a motion was made to set into law things that before were simply agreement. The dance slowed, became more clumsy than before, but as long as the families could work together, the world ticked on. However, with law came loopholes, and where there is power, you will find corruption. The Briar Queen was the first to exploit these to their fullest extent, and has used them to utterly undo the work of millennia, rewriting the rules to give her near absolute authority, with the only tip of the hat remaining a "Council of Advisors" where once were the great Triarchs of old.   The Family Structure: Triarch: Head of the family, Matriarch or Patriarch. Speaker: The hand and voice of the Triarch. Generally closer than brothers, the Speaker has the authority to represent the Triarch when they cannot attend. Not all families have a speaker Scion: The heir to the family, often a member of the Wards that has shown themselves to be trustworthy and a kindred spirit to the Triarch, later adopted into the family and trained to follow in the footsteps. Godwards: The "sons" and "daughters" of the Triarch, trusted to organize and lead the other members of the family. Often about the power of a Mayor or CEO in their respective areas Familyfolk: Those who live under the Aegis of the family, generally employed or overseen in some manner by one of the Godwards
