Mokoluha

Mokoluha, or the Island Builders, are by and large the most facinating of all the sea dwelling races. Unlike the Mer, which dwell beneath it, and the sailors which only cross it, Island Builders live upon the seas, aboard the massive living groves for which they are named. Their history tells of the gift of the first Island Tree seed, bestowed upon them by one of their gods, while others suggest an grand working by their spell casters, or even a natural evolution! Regardless of the origin, for centuries now the Island builders have dwelt upon their grove-ships, their cities sailing between the many islands and the continent until the day they finally root themselves in the seafloor and become a landmass in truth.
Due to the ongoing travels of the Mokoluha, coasts across the world are dotted with landmasses home to a grove of Island Trees and village, making trade easy and profitable, and forming a natural barrier against some of the darker denizens of the ocean. To this day, the sight of one of the great groves sailing towards port is an auspicious sight, and the trade they bring can swell a city's coffers by the ton- provided, of course that they are Mokoluha, not Nokuna or 'Outcasts'. After all, raid launched by a floating city tends to have a negative effect on a city's wealth.

Structure

The Mokoluah are divided into groves, individual tribes based around a small network of their island trees that travel together, much like a fleet of ships. Groves tend to be independent of any overarching hierarchy, much like the city states of some land dwelling people's. Instead, Mokolo identify themselves as first a member of the Grove, second as member of a family, third a member of an alliance, and only then as a member of the nation.
Within the groves, structure tends to be fairly socialized, where the wellness of the Grove is a the first priority, succeeding and failing as one. In return, noone goes without, and those who have fallen on hard times are supported by the community.
