Residence Hall
The Residence Hall of the larger Jermin House is the highest and most visible section of Jermin House. It is the primary residence and home of the large and very wealthy Jermin Family, the owners of the Jermin Hill Mine and much of the Town of Dunhill.
Built to look like a fortified castle, the hall is not actually very defensible. Walls are not built as defenses as much as they are decorations, as are most of the structure's five towers. Only the central tower, known as the Keep, can actually be called a defensive structure. Walls are well built, but not designed to withstand artillery or attack by rams. Most tower rooms have large glazed windows rather than arrow loops.
The Residence Hall is home to some 18 members of the Jermin Family, ranging from infants to elderly.
Purpose / Function
The section of Jermin House that contains the residence and living spaces for the Jermin Family and their staff.
Architecture
Built to look like a grand castle, the Hall is a small palace but is not particularly defensible. Walls are functional but not designed to withstand attack, towers are decorative rather than functional and the interiors are opulent and lavish rather than utilitarian, as would be expected in a true castle. In short, the most visible and obvious section of Jermin House is built to impress, but is not built to function like the castle it is meant to resemble.
History
Construction of the Residence Hall was begun about 18 years ago, and was only completed in the last four years. The central square keep is all that remains of the original defensive structure above ground, but the deep and strong foundations of the original castle provide a safe and solid footing for the ornate structure now present.
